Position Summary |
The Associate Director of Accommodations plays a critical leadership role within Accessibility and Testing, reporting directly to the Director. This position is responsible for overseeing the interactive process for determining and implementing disability-related academic accommodations while ensuring compliance with relevant policies, procedures, and legal standards.
As a key leader within the department, the Associate Director directly supervises the Assistant Director of Accommodation Management, the Assistant Director of Accommodation Support, one Senior Accommodations Coordinator/Academic Assistants Manager, and a Graduate Assistant. This role also contributes to high-level decision-making by actively participating in strategic planning and policy development to enhance accessibility services.
Beyond leadership responsibilities, the Associate Director manages a caseload of students with disabilities, providing individualized support and ensuring equitable access to academic resources. Through collaboration, policy oversight, and student-centered advocacy, this position advances the university's commitment to fostering an inclusive and accessible learning environment. |
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies |
- Knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and other legal knowledge related to college students with disabilities.
- Knowledge of best practices related to determination and implementation of academic accommodations.
- Knowledge of academic and physical impact of a variety of disabilities.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.

Leadership and Staff Supervision:
- Provide leadership, strategic planning, and budgetary oversight to strengthen accessibility services for the growing population of students with disabilities at the University of Georgia. Develop, implement, and assess policies, procedures, and case management services to ensure equitable access and compliance with legal and institutional standards.
- Serve as an active member of the Accessibility and Testing Leadership Team, providing direction in the Director's absence and contributing to the department's long-term vision. Represent Accessibility and Testing and the University of Georgia at campus, state, and national levels, positioning the institution as a leader in disability services in higher education.
- Directly supervise three full-time staff members-the Assistant Director of Accommodation Management, the Assistant Director of Accommodation Support, and the Senior Accommodations Coordinator/Academic Assistants Manager-as well as one graduate assistant. Provide mentorship, support, and professional development opportunities to enhance staff expertise and engagement.
- Actively promote and participate in the development, retention & engagement of each staff member. Cultivate a collaborative and inclusive work environment that values innovation, best practices in accessibility, and supports contributions to the field of disability services.
- Provide direct guidance to the Assistant Directors in their supervisory roles, ensuring effective leadership and oversight of accommodation services. Offer expertise on complex accommodation and accessibility issues to uphold the university's commitment to inclusion and student success.

- Act as an appeals resource in cases where the Associate Director for Disability Resources and Outreach or Director is unavailable or when a conflict of interest arises, ensuring a fair and transparent review process.
- Serve as an avenue for appeals in the absence of the Associate Director for Disability Resources and Outreach and Director and when there is a conflict of interest.
