GAI is seeking a Technical Specialist 5 (transmission line) to join our Power Delivery team. Required skills include transmission line design experience, critical thinking, problem solving, organization, team-focus, and eagerness to apply learned engineering principles to solve real life problems. The right candidate will be able to work from one of the following locations: Chicago, IL; Fort Wayne, IN; Jackson, MI; Overland Park, KS; Orlando, FL; Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Pittsburgh, PA; Tampa, FL. Additionally, the right candidate could have the ability to work remote or from a hybrid schedule.

As a GAI technical specialist 5, this position is responsible assisting a team of engineers and project managers with transmission line designs. This individual should be technically focused and a strong leader with developed technical, communication, and computer skills.

Job Responsibilities:



  • Complete day-to-day project tasks as required for successful project delivery. Tasks may include:


    • Preparation of Specification Packages
    • Preparation of Structural and Fabrication Drawings
    • Design and Analysis of Transmission Lines using PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-Tower
    • Design and Analysis of foundations.
    • Analysis of existing and proposed structures with regard to Client and Other required codes, standards, and specifications.
    • Performance of Electrical Clearance checks and calculations.
    • Coordination and development of permits for Railroads, Roadways, and Environmental Crossings.


  • Apply engineering principles to assist in the design of Power Delivery Projects.
  • Must demonstrate attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Perform complex tasks typically following established processes.

  • 10%

  • Leads tasks and projects of moderately complex scopes.
  • Supports development of plans, specifications, and other project documents.
  • Selects appropriate principles of engineering economics, and probability and statistics to analyze risk in a complex engineering problem.


Minimum Years of Experience



  • 8+


Education



  • B.S. Engineering or other technical degree


Certification/Licensure



  • Driver's License


Technical Responsibilities



  • Predominantly develops and reviews complete project documents for conformity and quality assurance.
  • Keeps informed of updates to standards, regulations, and best practices.
  • Predominantly analyzes complex engineering projects to determine design requirements, uncertainties, and constraints.
  • Acknowledges and applies concepts of sustainability to engineering projects.


Project and Task Management



  • Assigns tasks to and directs other technical and nontechnical staff.
  • Predominantly plans and coordinates detailed aspects of the engineering work.
  • Predominantly prepares scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments.
  • Assists with proposals to provide professional services or obtain funding for engineering projects.


Management Responsibility



  • Receives supervision and guidance relating to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters.
  • Receives direction on unusual conditions and developments.
  • Provides mentored experience to direct reports and other engineers.
  • Demonstrates professional attitudes relevant to the practice of engineering, including creativity, curiosity, flexibility, and dependability.


Communication Skills



  • Possesses advanced oral and written communication skills, including interpretation of complex technical and contractual language.
  • Considers the needs of diverse project stakeholders.
  • Leads project meetings and represents the practice in communications pertaining to broad aspects of engineering assignments.
  • Analyzes and selects principles of formal communication, effective teamwork, and various pathways to developing leadership.
