Associate Research Scientist

The Associate Research Scientist (ARS) will work on testing the therapeutic effects of a new formulation of Coenzyme Q (CoQ) in in vitro and in vivo models of primary and secondary CoQ deficiency. They will grow and characterize patients derived fibroblasts, neurons and myoblasts, before and after supplementation. They will also maintain and breed mice colonies; they will treat mice and characterize them before and after supplementation ; the ARS will perform molecular and biochemical studies, including western blots, quantitative PCRs, spectrophotometric assessments of mitochondrial respiratory chain enzyme activities and Seahorse Analyzer assays, CoQ measurement, oxidative stress analysis, and viability assays. They will collect pellets for "omics" analyses, that they will learn to interpret and analyze.

Under the supervision of Dr. Quinzii, the ARS will analyze relevant literature, design and conduct experiments, analyze data and write manuscripts for publication. They will make oral presentations of research at internal (Columbia), national, and international meetings, and ultimately they will apply for fellowships and grants to become independent.
