The Surgical Oncology Program Manager will manage / oversee all aspects of the assigned practices/programs impacting delivery of high-quality patient care. The Program Manager designs, implements, and evaluates system-wide Program components as applicable to each clinical entity within the scope of the Programs. Additionally, the Program Manager will be responsible for planning, coordinating, directing, and supervising various elements of the Program's surgical practices. Responsibilities may include oversight of billing and collections, daily practice operations, evaluation of patient support service delivery, and/or supervision of employees.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Management

  • Achieves objectives of the Programs by facilitating change within key physician practices and hospital departments involved in the care of patient populations; provides programmatic improvement recommendations and prioritizes resulting activities; and, solicits feedback from stakeholders to ensure high-quality patient care is being provided.
  • Leads development and implementation of the Program's strategic plan in partnership with the Medical Director, NHCI Program Development Manager, NHCI leadership and others as appropriate.
  • Regularly meets with Program administrative teams to continually improve patient flow throughout the continuum of care.

Practice Management / Operations

  • Manages daily practice operations while developing, monitoring, and analyzing budget and financial information effectively.
  • Facilitates preparation and follow-up of monthly business meetings (agenda, minutes, data, etc.)
  • Establishes the expected level of performance and maintains the standard by holding others accountable.
  • Manages the process for defining, developing, and allocating the resources required for optimal patient care.
  • Implements, interprets, and ensures adherence to hospital philosophy, policies, and procedures.
  • Defines and monitors key measures of performance, assesses the effectiveness of process/practice improvements, and identifies priorities/opportunities for improvement.
  • Leads the operations of the practice through a data-driven approach.
Financial Management
  • Responsible for development of operational and capital budgets which accurately reflect the financial and operational needs of the assigned Programs and Practices
  • Monitors / reports on practice budgets on a monthly basis.
  • Manages practices within Northside Hospital budgetary guidelines.
  • Responsible and accountable for oversight of billing and collection activities.
  • Maintains overhead and collection percentages within (best practice) industry standards.
Strategic Planning / Communications
  • Develops and implements a marketing plan for the assigned Program and Practice targeting providers, patients, and community members.
  • Responsible for website content development and oversight of execution.
  • Plans, executes, and monitors the effectiveness of provider outreach efforts.
  • Plans educational opportunities for providers, staff, patients, and community members in concert with medical leadership, medical staff education, community outreach and marketing.
  • Actively seeks and reports opportunities for market growth.
  • Determines human resource needs and assists in the development of services to address those needs.
  • Communicates and coordinates with the departments and services necessary to provide optimal care coordination.
  • Communicates regularly with staff to keep them abreast of information that will assist in the safe and effective performance of their jobs and to create an understanding of hospital-wide performance and direction.
  • Acts as a liaison between the Practice and Northside Hospital Cancer Institute services offered.

Professional and Leadership Development

  • Utilizes leadership principles to initiate, prescribe, influence, and facilitate change.
  • Establishes collegial relationships with physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and staff.
  • Consistently exhibits good customer service skills in all interactions with staff, patients, and families.
  • Participates in activities designed to continue professional self-improvement.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED

  1. Bachelor's degree in business administration, healthcare administration, or related field.
  2. Strong administrative/management/supervisory experience as evidenced by:
    1. Plan, organize, direct, and control activities of an organization, department, or service within or across a hospital or similar entity
    2. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, physicians, and others
  3. Minimum (3) years management experience in business or healthcare-related services.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION PREFERRED

  1. Physician practice, ambulatory care, surgery, or oncology management experience.
  2. Master's Degree in healthcare, business administration or related field.
