Are you a positive self-starter who thrives in a team environment? Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE: APD), a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases, is seeking an experienced Instrument and Electrical Technician at our Texas City, TX facility. The facility assets include our largest Steam Methane Reformer, a Nitrogen Air Separation Unit, the world's largest single train Ammonia Plant, Ammonia Pipelines, 60 MW of Steam Turbine Power Generation and large Utility System.

The I&E Tech is responsible for performing preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment at the Texas City facility, including, but not limited to; transmitters, switches, analyzers, PH and Conductivity probes, programmable controllers, proximity devices, level control systems, control valves, equipment and personnel safety systems, paymeter systems, and motor controls. The I&E Tech is also responsible for the safe operation, solving, repair, and documentation of all activities surrounding plant equipment.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Participate in Company's safety programs by promoting safety rules and regulations as well as environmental compliance
  • Provide hands on support to resolve Instrument/Electrical field problems as they occur
  • Perform and lead all aspects of the inspection, repair, installation, fixing, and modification of process controls, control valves, safety devices, analyzers, PLC's, field instrumentation (pressure, level and flow instrumentation), process monitoring equipment, low voltage motors/breakers and control circuits and distributed control systems (DCS)
  • Responsible for commissioning of new plants in addition to troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of plant instrumentation and controls
  • Investigate equipment failures, determine root cause of failure, and recommend appropriate solutions to reduce reoccurrence of/or eliminate failures
  • Recommend and specify revisions to improve equipment performance and/or system reliability/capacity.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and periodic review of preventative/predictive maintenance programs to reduce unplanned shutdowns and improve overall plant on stream capability.
  • Create and update maintenance manual/procedures for certain equipment
  • Troubleshoot and work with Instrument Engineering Support to maintain distributed control systems. This is a rapidly changing technical area and requires a high level of training.
  • Stay on top of and evaluate new methodologies, work practices, equipment, instrumentation, controls, technology, etc, for application and use within the plant
  • Participate and provide expertise in the planning and execution of minor and major planned/unplanned shutdowns
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5-years maintenance experience in a petrochemical, manufacturing or military environment
  • Ability to read drawings
  • Demonstrate the practice of safe handling of hand tools and hand power tools
  • Knowledge of PLC and DCS controls is a plus
  • Understand the properties, behaviors, and hazards of the equipment
  • Two-year Associate degree in Instrumentation/Electrical field or relevant military experience
  • SAP or equivalent experience CMMS system a plus
  • Candidates with SkillsUSA membership and the ability to demonstrate PDP leadership skills are strongly encouraged to apply
  • Practical knowledge of machinery overhauls and refurbishment
  • Proven safe work skills, fundamental computer skills and the ability to work extended hours including night shift when needed
  • On call rotation and must be willing to work overtime
  • Drive company vehicles safely
  • Most be able to learn how to operate facility forklifts, manlift and shop overhead crane.
  • Supervisory skills/experience a plus
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to work in an industrial environment which includes climbing ladders and steps, able to work in confined spaces, get on scaffolding and manlift type equipment and wear PPE such as full body harness
  • Must be clean shaven and able to wear supplied air and air purifying respiratory protection
  • Able to lift 50 lbs.
