The Virtual Registered Nurse (RN) delivers professional nursing care to patients in an acute care setting through telecommunication technology. This role involves collaborating closely with the bedside nurse and patient care team to provide coordinated, safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care tailored to the individual needs of patients and families across the lifespan. The RN practices in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, ANA Code of Ethics, and ANA standards of practice, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care.

The Virtual Care Nurse Specialist utilizes the EPIC electronic medical record system to identify high-risk patients and coordinate their care effectively. Key responsibilities include conducting comprehensive follow-up assessments, educating healthcare staff on sepsis identification and management, participating in quality improvement initiatives, and maintaining accurate documentation in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards. This position offers a unique opportunity to impact patient outcomes significantly by proactively managing patient care and preventing deterioration.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1.ADN, Diploma, BSN, or higher degree

2. Current unencumbered licensure with the WV Board of Registered Professional Nurses, or appropriate state board where services will be provided, as a registered professional nurse OR Current multi-state licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).

3.Current BLS / ACLS

EXPERIENCE:

1.5 years' experience in acute care bedside nursing

2.The Virtual Care Nurse Specialist must meet the educational and experience required of the patient population they serve, i.e. sepsis, critical care, medical surgical, etc.

3. Experience in mentoring and coaching others.

EXPERIENCE:

Specialty Certification in applicable discipline strongly preferred.

1. Direct observation via video conferencing

2.Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate.

3.Proactive surveillance of physiological trends

4.Medical Chart Review on data collection and patient's individual needs. Utilizes clinical assessment skills and knowledge of EPIC or designated software application, to monitor patients effectively and efficiently in collaboration with the patient's primary nurse. Utilize critical thinking skills and the specialized software to assess patients, and preemptively address subtle signs and symptoms of clinical deterioration or status changes.

5. Conducts through follow- up assessments to monitor patient progress and ensure adherence to management plans.

6.Provides Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) to patients and caregivers.

7.Defines expected outcomes that incorporate cost, clinical effectiveness, and are aligned with the outcomes identified by members if the inter-professional team.

8.Collaborates with the bedside Nurse in the design and development of the plan of care with inter-Professional plan of care.

9.Provides education based on learning needs and involvement of family.

10.Provides interdepartmental guidance regarding strategies to enhance care provided to patient population.

11. Collaborates with the healthcare team in modifying care delivery, creating an environment conducive to improved care experience.

12. Participates in developing new processes and strategies within the organization.

13.Partners with other members of health system to assist with system quality improvements.

14.Promotes effective communication among inter-professional team members & healthcare consumers.

15.Assists with organizational policy within the practice setting.

16.Assists with improved information infrastructure.

17.Utilizes appropriate data and information and resources in providing care and decision making.

18.Demonstrates leadership skills that emphasize ethical and critical decision-making, effective working relationships, and a systems perspective.

19. Required competencies to include demonstration of participation in QI and/or shared governance.

20.Essential functions and specific skills for the job are found in the unit specific onboarding checklist and in standards that are applicable to the specialty.

Physical Requirements:

1. Frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping are necessary body movements utilized in performing duties through the work shift.

2. Ability to sit for extended periods of time.

Working Environment:

1. Standard Call center office environment.

Skills and Abilities:

1. Ability to handle and maintain confidential information.

2.Ability to work in a fast paced and rapidly changing environment.

3.Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as strong organizational and motivational skills.

4. Must be flexible.

5.Proficiency in Information Technology, such as electronic health records, communication systems, computers, and equipment necessary to perform essential functions of the position.

6. Skilled to work with a wide range of staff as part of an interdisciplinary team, including physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff.

7. Ability to use independent, critical judgment in all aspects of patient care delivery.

8.Demonstrated interpersonal skills that convey a positive and supportive attitude.

9.Ability to effectively manage multiple responsibilities, urgent responses, and challenging situations.

This is an in-person, M-F position based out of the Children's Hospital and does not allow for any remote work.
