Job Summary:

In addition to being a key contributor to their assigned projects, this position in the administrative manager of the Project Engineering team at Messer. This team is responsible for the day-to-day management of much of our key capital projects.

This includes coordination of detailed design, schedule, procurement and stage gate processes (P&ID review, Hazop, Model Reviews, Safety Reviews).

The Project Engineers provide critical value to the organization by ensuring the project stays on track to achieve it business goals. As the key interface between the various organizations in Messer, project engineers gain unique insights into the functioning of the organization and how Messer delivers value to our customer. They use this insight to dive their project(s) forward.

As a working supervisor, lead the Project Engineering and Execution Project Engineering team (including outsource and contract resources) to develop winning proposals and deliver projects Safely, to Specification, on Schedule and on Budget. This includes hiring and developing the team, developing tools that are aligned both with Operations and Messer globally.

Principal Responsibilities:

The Project Engineering team is responsible for the following on their assigned projects.



  • Supporting the Project Manager in all aspects of the project both in the office and the field
  • Coordinating Discipline[1] Engineering between internal engineers and EPC partners to ensure completeness and timeliness[2].
  • Handling the day-to-day detailed management of the project schedule
  • Handling the day-to-day transactional process of purchase and invoices
  • Managing the document control process
  • Managing all the design reviews including HAZOP/PSR and PSSR process
  • Coordinating with Construction and Commissioning Program Managers on Manpower Requirements.
  • Other possibilities depending on experience level of Project Engineer
  • Planning and implementation of commissioning
  • Providing regular updates to stakeholders on their assigned projects. This can include budget, schedule, and technical progress.


Required Skills:

Functional:



  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Visio, Excel
  • Experience with MS project is a plus.


Managerial:



  • Ability to work comfortably as a team leader, team member, or as an independent contributor.
  • Negotiation and conflict resolution
  • Ability to delegate
  • Coaching and training


Other:



  • Passion for safety
  • Proven technical knowledge in multiple engineering disciplines
  • Knowledge of FEL/Stage/Gate project management methodology (PEMBOK), and Project Management software and tools (including but not limited to Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS project, Primavera)
  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory standards and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to travel 20-40% as required for site visits, shop visits, Coordination with Engineering Contractors, QA/QC support, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple engineering efforts simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in supervising the work of others (experience with administrative responsibilities not required but a plus)



Basic Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field; advanced degree a plus.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in industrial gases or chemical plant design/operation/projects and 3-5 years as a supervisor.
