Role Summary The Senior Systems Engineer at Rand Worldwide is responsible for managing and optimizing the company's IT infrastructure, including physical and virtual servers and networking components. The role involves leading IT projects, troubleshooting complex technical issues, and automating routine functions to improve system performance. This individual will work cross-functionally to support strategic initiatives, provide advanced IT support, and manage vendor relationships while adhering to change management processes. Major Responsibilities/Activities
- Manage and maintain physical and virtual server environments
- Administer and troubleshoot Windows operating systems
- Manage backup, security, and system management tools (e.g., SysAid, CrowdStrike)
- Optimize and test network and server performance, identify potential problems, and implement solutions accordingly
- Develop and configure custom scripts to automate routine functions and increase system performance
- Identify and translate business requirements into new opportunities for efficiency
- Provide high Level II and Level III support for the IT Helpdesk
- Lead new infrastructure projects and associated vendor relationships (e.g., company communications, stakeholder management, training/education, etc.)
- Create and follow all Change Management procedures and policies
- Create and maintain lists/spreadsheets/databases of software application license expirations, SSL certificates, and domain renewals.
Education Requirements
- BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience
Experience/Skill Requirements
- 10-15 year experience in the IT industry
- Experience with IaaS (preferably w/Microsoft Azure)
- Cybersecurity experience
- Experience with virtualization technology (preferably w/Hyper-V and/or VMWare)
- Technical aptitude to evaluate, design, and implement new technologies into the IT infrastructure
- Solid fundamental networking experience (OSI layers, TCP/IP, etc.)
- Basic scripting and PowerShell experience a plus
Travel
- This position requires up to 5-10% travel. Frequently travel is outside the local area and overnight.
Compensation
- Year 1 Total Compensation $120,000-$130,000
