Short Description Assists the Registered Nurse in providing direct, indirect and non-patient care responsibilities. Responsible for the collection of laboratory specimens and performing EKGs In addition, provides clerical support for the patient care unit. Assume responsibilities for transcription, record keeping, and intra-departmental and interdepartmental communications. Overview The Trauma/Surgical ICU (TSICU) is a 28-bed critical care unit specializing in the care of traumatically injured patients or those patients undergoing complex surgeries requiring close monitoring and care. Patients are admitted directly from the ED, the Ross Trauma Admitting Area, or the operating room. Patients usually cared for in this area include those with traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, rib fractures and lung injuries, as well as diverse orthopedic injuries requiring frequent monitoring and care. Many patients cared for the in the TSICU are poly-trauma, with injuries involving more than one body system. Common surgical patients include those undergoing Whipple procedures, esophagectomies, gastrostomies, and abdominal aortic aneurysms. The unit is staffed with registered nurses, critical care technicians, trauma surgery nurse practitioners, resident physicians and attending trauma surgeons. Staff also work closely with respiratory therapy and specialized surgical groups such as orthopedics and neurosurgery. Nurses and critical care technicians working in this area receive education specific to the care of the trauma patient. Experience Required 0-2 years experience preferred Education Requirements High School Diploma or Equivalent required. License/Certification Requirements BLS required, State Certification and Unit Secretary Certification is desirable AND Successful completion of an unlicensed health care provider/ technician program Completed at least one fundamental nursing course in an accredited RN Program 1 year or more patient care experience in a similar role. At least one of the above qualifications/certifications must be met for hire. Special Requirements 36 hours a week, mid shift hours: 12p-12a Apply
