The Manager, Production is responsible for the overall performance of the automatics department by developing and focusing organizational resources to continually add value to internal and external customers. The overall scope of the position is short to medium term planning within a fast-paced environment.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING(% of Time)

Production Management Scope (60%)

  • The Manager, Production, drives all operations required for the manufacturing of Fabrication, Weld, SSW, and SSL department product families, which may include automatic presses. This includes oversight from raw material management through to finished goods shipment, through the direct leadership of department supervisors. The Manager is responsible for ensuring daily performance to Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost across all assigned departments, and takes timely corrective action when targets are not met. They work in close collaboration with Production Planning and Scheduling to adjust labor and equipment allocation in response to customer demand. The Value Stream/Production Manager is the owner of the department's Value Stream Map(s) and actively leads and champions continuous improvement initiatives that drive progress in Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost performance. Develops, analyzes, and presents reports, including but not limited to, safety, quality, delivery, and cost. Conduct, lead, or implement the appropriate process audits to identify the need for the appropriate containment, corrective, and preventive actions, leading to minimizing or eliminating process deviations and abnormality root causes. Lead Kaizen events to correct and/or improve processes.
  • Responsible for staff management to include work assignments, employee training, employee vacations, overtime assignments, absenteeism planning, temporary employment, etc.

Talent Development (20%)

  • Training Program Development & Maintenance: Designs, implements, and continuously refines a comprehensive training and development roadmap for both new hires and tenured employees. The plan encompasses key areas such as safety protocols, standard operating procedures, production process updates, and product changes. Ensures training content remains current, relevant, and aligned with business needs, compliance standards, and employee development goals.
  • Leadership and Performance Management: Provides direction, support, and accountability for department leaders by applying effective performance management strategies. This includes setting clear expectations and measurable goals, offering timely and specific recognition, giving constructive feedback, and proactively addressing underperformance through coaching and formal corrective actions when necessary.
  • Employee Coaching and Empowerment: Acts as a coach and mentor to all team members, encouraging individual growth and ownership of performance and career development. Creates an environment where employees feel supported, respected, and empowered to contribute to their fullest potential.

Leadership Responsibilities (20%)

  • Skill Advancement and Cross-Training: Drives capability building within the department by promoting continued learning, structured cross-training initiatives, and opportunities for skill expansion both within and across value streams. Champions a learning culture that supports flexibility, engagement, and readiness for evolving operational demands.
  • Standardization of Knowledge: Leads the documentation and formalization of critical operational knowledge by capturing tribal knowledge and converting it into standardized work instructions. Ensures that best practices are not only retained but systematically transferred across teams to reduce dependency on individual expertise and sustain long-term process stability.
  • Incident and Performance Issue Management: Investigates and documents incidents related to safety, attendance, and process deviations with a fair, thorough, and solutions-focused approach. Coaches associate performance and behavioral expectations and administers progressive discipline when appropriate, ensuring consistency, documentation, and adherence to company policy.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree requires an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 10 years in a Lean Manufacturing Environment.
  • 5 years leading high performing teams
  • 2 years' experience executing a lean vision and journey
  • 2 years' experience with knowledge of ERP/MRP systems, SAP a plus.
  • Production and Processing: Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacturing and distribution of goods.
  • Accountability & Dependability: Meets commitments, works independently, accepts ownership of projects and outcomes, takes personal responsibility and sets objectives/standards, stays focused under pressure, meets attendance/punctuality requirements, shows a sense of urgency about getting results.
  • Analysis: Ability to analyze and collect data. Ability to make sound business judgments.
  • Communication: Ability to effectively manage and motivate the performance of employees by setting goals, monitoring performance, provides feedback and helps others to learn.
  • Problem Solving: Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Critical Thinking: The ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Leadership: Ability to build consensus amongst one's peers in leadership. Ability to establish an effective, professional, and positive relationship with staff.
  • Technical: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Simpson computer applications, such as SAP (or similar MRP software) and OEE software The ability to effectively use MS Office products, and ERP system.
  • Lean Manufacturing: Knowledge of elimination of waste, continuous improvement, S5, Kaizen, Quality Built in, JIT, Kanban, and leveled production.
  • Mathematics: Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, statistics, and their applications.

Travel

This job requires up to 10% of domestic travel.

This full-time, exempt position is located in Riverside CA.

Pay

$89,100 - $142,600 / year
