Aon is currently hiring for an Underwriting Specialist II role for our Excess and Commercial Flood Department. This is a virtual position.

What the day will look like

  • Establish yourself as a private flood insurance expert as you underwrite and process documents in line with carrier agreements, surplus lines rules and state regulations
  • Collaborate with agents, various departments and carrier partners via multiple communication methods to effectively process transactions
  • Add a variety of skills to your repertoire, including the application of pricing and underwriting rules and regulations to align with the federal National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP)
  • Flex your investigative skills as you determine the credibility of legal, closing and replacement cost documents as well as National Flood Insurance Program maps and elevation data
  • Hone your communication abilities as you communicate complex technical information to agents, build rapport with customers and address questions regarding private products and NFIP rules and regulations
  • Handle policies using knowledge of underwriting components, including elevation certificates, zone determinations, refunds, agent commissions, community numbers and discounts, emergency programs, severe repetitive loss, preferred risk properties, grandfathering, pre-firm, post-firm, rollovers, map revisions, policy date rules, and disaster assistance

Skills and experience that will lead to success

  • Commercial Property & Casualty insurance experience; customer account handling and/or underwriting.
  • Understand multiple P&C coverage lines such as: Primary Flood, Excess Flood, Commercial Flood
  • Proficient digital literacy to include Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel & Adobe Acrobat.
  • Proficient math, oral and written communication skills.
  • Organized, able to prioritize work and possess effective time management skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Work well with team members and co-workers, participate in and support an underwriting team environment, advance your knowledge with formal educational courses, and interact with management.
  • Property & Casualty license preferred, will be required within 6 months of hire date

Education:

High School Diploma or GED required

The salary range for this position (intended for U.S. applicants) is $40,300 to $48,000 annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.
