Job Summary

The Compliance Assistant will work closely with Audit Services and Institute Compliance (ASIC) lead compliance professional and the Senior Director of Compliance to execute compliance assignments at both Campus and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). This includes performing compliance assessments to review all aspects of compliance controls and processes/programs. The Compliance Assistant develops relationships with personnel who have a significant role in the Institute's compliance efforts. They will work with ASIC and responsible Institute personnel to address identified compliance issues.

Essential Job Duties
  • Works under the direction of the lead compliance personnel or with the ASIC Senior Director of Compliance.
  • Works with Institute personnel at Campus and JPL to research compliance areas and understand key risks, including the impact of Federal, State, and/or local requirements, and summarizes the results.
  • Applies general knowledge of laws, regulations, grants, and contracts to identify discrepancies in organizational policies, practices, and/or procedures.
  • Performs compliance assessments of various Institute organizations and processes to evaluate Institute's compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal requirements.
  • Collects information during compliance assessments and prepares relevant documents to support conclusions, including the identification of potential gaps and/or discrepancies for management discussion.
  • Monitors gaps identified in key compliance and governance activities at Campus and JPL and perform follow-up to ensure timely implementation of corrective actions that result from various types of compliance assessments.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with Institute personnel who have responsibility for compliance with laws, regulations, contracts, and grants.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree completed by date of hire in environmental health and safety or a related field.
  • Six months of related experience.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements including but not limited to the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, Code of Federal Regulations, and California Code of Regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Office Platforms such Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Ability to learn creative data visualization techniques (graphs, infographics, etc.).
  • Must have necessary credentials to work at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory: US citizenship or permanent residency.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with and knowledge of regulatory requirements including but not limited to the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, Code of Federal Regulations, and California Code of Regulations.

Hiring Range

$70,700 - $82,700 Per Year

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
