Who We Are
BioMarin is a global biotechnology company that relentlessly pursues bold science to translate genetic discoveries into new medicines that advance the future of human health.
Since our founding in 1997, we have applied our scientific expertise in understanding the underlying causes of genetic conditions to create transformative medicines, using a number of treatment modalities.
Using our unparalleled expertise in genetics and molecular biology, we develop medicines for patients with significant unmet medical need. We enlist the best of the best - people with the right technical expertise and a relentless drive to solve real problems - and create an environment that empowers our teams to pursue bold, innovative science. With this distinctive approach to drug discovery, we've produced a diverse pipeline of commercial, clinical and preclinical candidates that have well-understood biology and provide an opportunity to be first-to-market or offer a substantial benefit over existing therapeutic options.
About Worldwide Research and Development
From research and discovery to post-market clinical development, our WWRD engine involves all bench and clinical research and the associated groups that support those endeavors. Our teams work on developing first-in-class and best-in-class therapeutics that provide meaningful advances to patients who live with genetic diseases.
The Non-Oncology Hematology Research group at BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc. is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate II to join our team. The successful candidate will work closely with a team of scientists to support research projects aimed at developing novel therapeutics for non-malignant blood disorders. This role involves the development and optimization of cell-based models and assays to support pre-clinical programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cell Culture: Maintain and culture cell lines and primary cells to perform highly technical cell-based assays to evaluate target biology.
- Assay Development: Develop and optimize cell-based models and assays to support pre-clinical programs, including pharmacokinetics, efficacy, safety, and mechanisms of action of novel therapeutics.
- Technical Troubleshooting: Proactively troubleshoot technical issues and recommend potential corrective actions.
- Data Management: Record and maintain accurate and up-to-date records of experimental procedures, data, and conclusions in electronic laboratory notebooks and databases.
- Collaboration: Work independently and as part of a team, presenting data and participating in discussions in group meetings, department meetings, and Early Development team meetings as necessary.
- Documentation: Prepare SOPs and data reports to support nonclinical and clinical programs and associated regulatory submissions.
- Lab Management: Share responsibility for lab management duties, including maintaining lab equipment and purchasing standard lab materials.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
- Experience: 2-4 years of relevant laboratory experience, preferably in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology setting.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in cell culture (experience with primary cells, HSCs and/or iPSCs is highly preferred), transduction, transfection, cell-based assays, nucleic acid and protein extraction, droplet-digital PCR, ELISA, and western blot.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to perform data analysis and interpretation, with experience in statistical analyses being a plus.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present data and contribute to the preparation of research reports, study reports, manuscripts, and regulatory documents.
- Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and contribute to the broader scientific community.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with gene editing techniques and high-content imaging.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and guidelines for nonclinical and clinical programs.
