Are you a strategic and collaborative healthcare security leader with a proven track record of driving successful change? Regions Hospital, a leading Level I Trauma Center in St. Paul, Minnesota, is seeking a highly accomplished and forward-thinking Director of Security to lead our comprehensive security operations. This is a pivotal opportunity to help shape the safety and security landscape of an institution dedicated to providing exceptional patient care.

As the Director of Security, you will be a strategic partner to senior leadership, responsible for the development and execution of all security functions and strategic security initiatives and priorities. Your collaborative approach and expertise in implementing and managing change will be essential as you lead a dedicated team of security professionals, fostering a culture of proactive safety, continuous improvement, and organizational alignment.

This role reports to the HealthPartners Vice President of Security and partner closely with the other Security Directors across the HealthPartners system.

In this influential role, your responsibilities will include:



  • Strategic Direction: Plan and direct the Security Department in complete alignment with the organization-wide vision established by senior leadership.
  • Collaborative Strategic Planning: Develop, implement, and manage both the strategic and tactical plans for all security services, ensuring collaboration across departments and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Organizational Alignment & Change Leadership: Develop, implement, and manage the strategic planning and coordination of the Security function, ensuring seamless integration with the organization's overarching business objectives and effectively leading change initiatives to enhance security effectiveness.
  • Empowering Operational Leadership: Develop, plan, organize, and direct the activities of on-site Security management, internal security staff, and external contracted security services. Ensure all actions adhere to legal and regulatory requirements while consistently meeting evolving organizational and customer needs.
  • Proactive Security Framework: Develop and implement comprehensive policies, procedures, standards, training programs, and methodologies for proactively identifying and safeguarding intellectual property, assets, personnel, property, facilities, operations, and materials from a wide range of security threats.
  • Driving Critical Projects: Develop and manage business-critical security projects and programs with significant financial, reputational, and/or legal implications, leveraging your change management expertise to ensure successful implementation and adoption.
  • Performance Excellence: Develop and document clear standards for measuring the efficiency and overall effectiveness of all Security operations, utilizing data to drive continuous improvement.
  • Actionable Intelligence: Plan, develop, and implement robust procedures for obtaining, maintaining, securing, analyzing, accounting for, and providing critical information derived from comprehensive assessment reports to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Cross-Functional Security Enhancements: Manage complex security improvement projects that span across various business units, fostering collaboration and driving effective change management.
  • Strategic External Partnerships: Develop strategic business plans and cultivate strong public relations with municipal authorities, local public safety departments, high-level law enforcement agencies (including intelligence units), and relevant private sector counterparts, fostering collaborative relationships.
  • Effective Law Enforcement Liaison: Direct the relationship and coordination with on-site law enforcement officers, contracted off-duty law enforcement personnel, and patient monitoring officers, ensuring seamless collaboration and communication.
  • Federal Agency Coordination: Effectively coordinate any on-site activities involving the Secret Service, FBI, and other federal agencies as required, ensuring smooth and efficient collaboration.
  • Transparent Leadership Communication: Provide timely and informative briefings to senior leadership on the status of critical security issues and initiatives, proactively highlighting potential risks and opportunities.
  • Influential Organizational Representation: Act as the Security representative on relevant hospital committees and working groups, advocating for security priorities and contributing to organizational decision-making.
  • Empowering Team Development: Manage the daily activities and provide collaborative leadership direction to a diverse team of professional, technical, and support staff within the Security Department, fostering a culture of growth, development, and shared accountability.
  • Decisive Incident Management: Direct, lead, and coordinate thorough investigations into a wide range of incidents, including but not limited to employee behaviors/actions, public safety concerns, and drug theft, ensuring fair and effective resolution.
  • Proactive Risk Mitigation: Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and ensure the ongoing monitoring of community activity, proactively identifying potential threats and collaborating with relevant stakeholders to implement effective mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborative Team Guidance: Provide clear supervision and direction to multiple team members, including managers, supervisors, leads, security officers, and/or contracted security staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.



Work Schedule:



  • Monday - Friday, days with the expectation of visibility and regular rounding with security staff on all shifts including weekends



Required Qualifications:



  • Master's degree and 10 years of relevant experience, OR Bachelor's degree and 15 years of relevant experience, OR 20 years of relevant experience in a management/senior management role.



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Current CHPA (Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator) certification.
  • Healthcare security leadership experience within a hospital setting.
  • Previous experience successfully managing complex projects.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and implementing change management strategies with positive outcomes.
