Overview
Job Purpose The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for maintaining the availability, security, and performance of Windows and Linux systems in both production and non-production environments. This role focuses on incident response, troubleshooting, and resolving system performance and availability issues. The Senior Systems Administrator also assists in implementing automation and infrastructure improvements to ensure a reliable, secure, and scalable environment. This position requires effective collaboration with other teams to drive timely and efficient resolutions while ensuring exceptional support and service delivery. Responsibilities
- Administer and support Windows and Linux servers, ensuring optimal performance through proactive monitoring and issue resolution.
- Participate in incidents related to service availability and performance, providing timely resolutions and conducting thorough root cause analysis.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including infrastructure, development, and operations, to drive swift service restoration and resolution during incidents.
- Automate repetitive tasks and processes using scripting languages such as Bash, PowerShell, or Python.
- Promptly respond to system alerts to maintain continuous system availability and prevent escalation to high-priority incidents.
- Manage and maintain user access, permissions, and policies within Active Directory and other directory services.
- Assist in implementing infrastructure improvements and new projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Document system configurations, processes, and troubleshooting guides to promote internal knowledge sharing.
- Ensure all systems comply with IT policies and adhere to security standards.
Knowledge and Experience
- Proficiency in managing and troubleshooting Linux (RedHat or similar) and Windows servers.
- Understanding of system automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
- Understanding of Active Directory, group policies, and authentication mechanisms.
- Knowledge of virtualization technologies.
- Familiarity with networking concepts such as DNS, DHCP, firewalls, and VPNs.
- Familiarity with scripting languages, such as PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
- Experience with IT service management tools, preferably ServiceNow.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to perform effectively under pressure during incidents.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset to work effectively within a team environment.
Preferred
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Industry certifications such as CompTIA Server+, Microsoft Windows Server accreditations or Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA).
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools like Jenkins or GitLab CI/CD.
