Description

The Medium Production Operator reports through the Leavenworth Production Center and may be in multiple departments. Individuals in these departments operate a variety of medium presses that apply different processes to different products.

This position is on 3rd Shift (11:30pm - 8:00am), Monday through Friday

The Medium Production Operator sets up and operates a variety of medium presses that typically add processes to or manipulate roll wrap and other product. The machinery is of varying vintages, manufacturers, and types with multiple variable impacting press performance. Performs appropriate make-readies to machines that could include processes such as: cutting, flitter, laminating, virko, rewinding, rolling. Incumbent must exhibit great attention to detail and above average math skills to maintain tolerances related to counter measurements and proper alignments. Troubleshoots, performs quality checks and maintains/corrects variances using tools including but not limited to shear, saws, grinders, and micrometers. Responsibilities may include rewind operations and determining press speed, etc. May operate multiple presses.. May also be required to run several presses with similar skill sets in a team environment. May also be required to utilize computers to convert information to plates. Actively engages and asks probing questions regarding press issues or performance. Exposed to excessive heat, hazardous & non-hazardous chemicals. Has sense of urgency to ensure cycle times are being met and customers are pleased with level of service.

The Medium Production Operator position may be in multiple departments, and incumbent will be expected to learn and perform multiple assignments within this job classification.

In this position you will:



  • Perform make-ready procedures and other press adjustments on several presses with similar skill sets.
  • Operate various types of tooling machinery and perform general maintenance as needed.
  • Perform Quality System checks, including preflight, sampling plan and the removal of salvage/spoilage.
  • Record production, shipping, and/or spoilage information into SAP application.
  • Complete regular press maintenance and cleaning including TPM/MIRCs.
  • Perform proper start up and shut down procedures for the equipment.
  • Transport and handle hazardous waste materials in the form of reclaimed ink or solvents in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Follow detailed layouts to set up press to cut to specified dimensions.
  • Pack finished stock in boxes, label cartons, and place cartons on skids or place stock on skids and label.
  • Be certified to operate power lift equipment and skid inverting machine.
  • Utilize good safety practices

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS



  • Ability to grasp, lift and carry product weighing up to 30 lbs frequently and 60 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to pass color perception test
  • Ability to constantly stand and/or walk
  • Ability to frequently reach, twist, bend, perform repetitive hand/wrist motion and fine motor skills
  • Ability to work occasionally at or above shoulder level
  • Successful experience in internal 37 Packaging Operator or 38 Press Operator classifications or external machine operator equivalent



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • Good math, written, oral communication skills and ability to learn and retain knowledge. Math skills require computations such as percentages, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Possess a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Good safety practices: the ability to understand and follow established safety procedures.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and to work under pressure to meet or exceed production requirements.
  • Good planning and organizational skills to set up work area and manage work flow.



This position is located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Relocation is not provided.
