The Department of Marine & Coastal Sciences (
DMCS) at Rutgers University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate position to support research in coral biomineralization.
We are seeking a motivated candidate with demonstrated expertise in coral biology and ecology, biomineralization, proteomics, bioinformatics, and/or molecular evolution. These skills will be applied in the design and execution of interdisciplinary experiments to investigate biomineralization pathways in aposymbiotic and symbiotic corals.
The successful candidate will also assist with the configuration and maintenance of lab instrumentation. They will be expected to lead and contribute to manuscript preparation, grant proposals, and fellowship applications, while actively mentoring undergraduate researchers and participating in a collaborative research environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Conduct experimental research on proteins, genomes, and transcriptomes related to biomineralization in marine invertebrates.
2. Perform bioinformatic analyses of coral genomes.
3. Mentor and train undergraduate students in scientific research projects.
4. Present research at internal departmental meetings as well as national and international scientific conferences.
5. Coordinate collaborative activities involving multiple investigators and institutions.
6. Remain informed of and comply with all applicable federal, state, and university regulations and policies.
7. Understand and adhere to Rutgers' compliance standards, SEBS's Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and Conflict of Interest Policy.
8. Perform additional related duties as assigned.
The position will be for a 1 year appointment with the possibility of a 2nd year reappointment contingent upon funding and satisfactory performance. |

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
Must have a Ph.D. in Marine Biology, Ecology, or a related discipline.
Experience with Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry, Molecular biology techniques
& Mentoring undergraduate researchers is preferred. |

- Must have a Ph.D. in Marine Biology, Ecology, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated expertise in at least two of the following areas: Marine Ecology, Proteomics, Bioinformatics, Molecular Evolution.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English.
