Materials Engineer - Weathering Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is currently looking for an Automotive Materials Weathering Engineer at our Proving Grounds in California City, CA! WHAT YOU WILL DO Evaluate the material weathering resistance performance of Hyundai and Kia prototype and production vehicles and components Develop, plan, and execute material weathering projects that support the development of advanced material systems for polymers, fabrics, and coatings Conduct experimental investigations to understand and improve material weathering processes and analysis techniques in support of vehicle durability and performance Analyze spectral and thermal data and support development of new measurement techniques Organize and analyze tested material property data, providing associated testing reports for requesting teams Coordinate with other engineering and technician staff to perform material weathering evaluations Conduct benchmarking of competitive vehicle component materials Support the specification and maintenance of specialized testing equipment and data logging systems Support team management with the development of budget and equipment planning for the Weathering Station Travel up to 10% domestically/internationally WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Material Science, Chemistry, Paint/Coating, Plastic Technology, or Polymer Science; Other degrees may be considered based on relevant experience 5 years of materials testing and/or development experience, preferably in automotive Knowledge of spectral and thermal degradation of materials is highly desirable Hands-on experience in PLC programming, data systems, controller components is highly desirable Candidates applying for positions with Hyundai Kia must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
