Position Description
Manages a sub unit within a department. Plans, organizes and develops goals and procedures. Represents the sub unit to administrators, outside agencies and others on relevant matters. Supervises subordinate staff.

Major/Essential Functions
The RICE Manager will play a vital role in supporting the Research Innovation, Collaboration, and Entrepreneurship (RICE) team by coordinating with program directors, vice presidents, and other team members to ensure smooth operations and effective communication. This position is ideal for someone eager to develop research and innovation program management leadership skills. The role offers hands-on experience managing projects, supporting strategic initiatives, and assisting research leadership in driving key activities within the Office of Research. In addition to operational support, the RICE Manager will actively create engagement opportunities that encourage student involvement in research and innovation programs, helping to build a strong pipeline of future leaders in these fields.

Key Responsibilities:
Program Coordination & Support
  • Serve as the central point of contact for coordinating tasks across the RICE team, including program directors and research vice presidents, to ensure projects and initiatives stay on track. Responsibilities include scheduling meetings, recording notes, and tracking project progress.
  • Monitor timelines, manage deadlines, and follow up on action items to ensure tasks are completed efficiently.
  • Assist in organizing and delivering events, workshops, and engagement opportunities that promote research, innovation, and collaboration.
Administrative & Operational Support
  • Manage travel requests, expense reports, human resource support, and purchasing for the RICE team, ensuring compliance with TTUHSC policies.
  • Create and maintain the research and innovation portfolio database to track research ideas, research productivity, and faculty interests across the institution.
  • Develop and improve processes and systems to enhance workflow and ensure day-to-day operations run smoothly.
Student-Centric Program Development
  • Help design and coordinate student-focused research and innovation programs that inspire engagement and participation.
  • Assist in identifying opportunities for students to connect with faculty mentors, research projects, and entrepreneurial initiatives.


Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with two years supervisory experience; OR a combination of education and/or supervisory experience to equal six years.
