The Position

East Bay Municipal Utility District's (EBMUD's) Wastewater Technical and Emerging Issues group is currently seeking an Associate Civil Engineer who is motivated, energetic, innovative, a team player, a strong project manager, with excellent writing and verbal skills, and is experienced in wastewater process, operations, and maintenance engineering; and/or wastewater-related regulatory issues and wastewater-related research. In this role, the successful candidate will lead process area teams that conduct sophisticated wastewater treatment plant optimization projects involving innovative treatment processes or process modifications, automated process monitoring and control systems, state-of-the-art data handling technologies, and process computer modeling. Other projects may include leadership/support for wastewater treatment-related regulatory issues and research.

The most competitive candidates will possess significant knowledge of wastewater process engineering principles, sanitary engineering, chemistry, and microbiology; and/or wastewater treatment-related regulatory issues; proper conduct of engineering studies; wastewater treatment plant operations and maintenance; project management principles and practices; excellent analytical, problem solving, and critical reasoning skills; and work extremely well with others. Experience will include success in managing multi-discipline wastewater engineering projects, writing technical reports, and preparing and delivering technical presentations.

There are currently two regular full-time positions and one temporary (up to 6 months) position available.

The salary range is $12,383 per month increasing to $13,002, $13,652, $14,335 and $15,052 after 6, 18, 30, and 42 months, respectively.

Requirements

1.A bachelor's degree in an ABET-accredited civil engineering curriculum OR a California EIT Certificate.

2.Four years of professional engineering experience (subsequent to obtaining the degree), which is equivalent to two years of experience at EBMUD's Assistant Engineer level; and

3.California registration as a Professional Civil Engineer.

4.Possession of a valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.

The Selection Process

1.Submit a completed EBMUD application and the required supplemental question responses online at www.ebmud.com by 4:30 p.m., Friday, April 25, 2025. Only application materials submitted online during the filing period will be accepted.

2.Candidates must achieve a passing score on each test part in order to advance to the next step in the selection process.

3.All qualified applications and supplemental responses will be competitively evaluated, with those candidates demonstrating the strongest qualifications for the position to be invited to a panel interview.

4.Successful candidates will be placed on the hiring list, based on rank, for further consideration to fill the current regular vacancy, as well as others occurring over the next 12 to 24 months.

5.The probation period for this position is 12 months. For those holding civil service status the probation period is 6 months.

6.All employment offers are conditional, pending the results of a Live Scan background screening. All selected finalists must participate in the Live Scan background screening process to remain in consideration for EBMUD employment.
