Our Arlington office is looking to add a Senior Structural Engineer to our team. You will be involved with civil structure projects for buildings and infrastructure projects. You will be part of a team that is responsible for preparation of conceptual, preliminary, and final design plans, specifications, and estimates. Typical projects will include building, road, underground and retaining structures.

In addition to the overarching responsibility, your day to day will include:



  • Provide professional engineering services including technical specifications, design criteria and intent, constructability reviews and staging plans for new and rehab structural projects
  • Deliver high quality and cost-effective structural evaluation and design solutions for building and infrastructure structure support projects using internal and external sources
  • Supervise licensed and non-licensed professionals including assignment of work, mentoring, performance planning and development in the field of structural engineering
  • Supervise and/or provide structural assessments including, condition, load capacity, service life, rehabilitation and functional needs, life cycle costing, and renewal options analysis
  • Supervise and/or provide structural inspection and assessment reports
  • Assist project managers in the development of scope, schedule & budget as it relates to the structural discipline
  • Supervise or provide field reviews and/or coordinate site construction activities ensuring compliance with construction contract documents and design intents
  • Supervise or provide engineering services during construction and project close out with record drawings
  • Build client relationships through performance, service, effective communication, and by identifying and meeting client needs
  • Apply a quality management system for structural engineering design projects including quality control and assurance procedures, checks, and independent reviews at different phases of designs
  • Some travel may be required


Candidate Specification:

We invite applications from candidates with the following experience:



  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering
  • Minimum 10 years of structural engineering experience preferably in buildings and infrastructure projects
  • Professional Engineer status in Virginia or the District of Columbia, or ability to obtain such qualification within 6 months
  • Structural Engineer status in Virginia or the District of Columbia, or ability to obtain such qualification within 6 months
  • Prepare and monitor work plan, scope, schedule, and budgets
  • Experience communicating with clients as a project engineer and/or structural engineer is desirable
  • Knowledge of IBC
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiating, problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

The expected salary for this position is $126,000 - $153,000
