The Sr. Implementation Project Manager is responsible for leading the implementation phase of new client set-up and existing client renewals, as needed. This includes planning and coordinating both client and cross-functional operational teams to support all aspects of setup and design. This position will serve as the main point of contact during the implementation. The Sr. Implementation Project Manager will mitigate client/member risks and internal risks through comprehensive understanding of all downstream impacts of project components, and partner with internal teams to facilitate operational procedures and implementation processes for new products. The ideal candidate for this role will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, an ability to consult and effectively influence others, and a passion for project management.

Primary Responsibilities:

This role will challenge your ability to work on complex projects with frequently shifting deadlines and scope. You will need flexibility, agility, and the ability to adapt to change while maintaining solid relationships with stakeholders in a highly cross-matrixed environment. You will be responsible for managing multiple long-term projects, ranging in scope, risk, complexity, and timelines.



  • End-to-end project management, demonstrating ownership of the entire process
  • Lead new clients through the implementation of financial service products, including, but not limited to Health Savings Accounts, Flex Spending Accounts, Health Reimbursement Accounts, Commuter Benefit Accounts, etc
  • Lead large and/or strategic clients using the Consultative Approach to partner with others to produce optimum result and simultaneously build trust and commitment with Optum Financial clients
  • Develop, communicate, and implement program/project risk/issue management plans and strategies (eg, mitigation, avoidance, transfer, acceptance)
  • Create and effectively manage deliverables for client implementation projects: Charter/Scope, Microsoft Project Schedule, Issues, Risks, Action Items Decision (IRAD) Log, Weekly Implementation Executive Status Report, Lessons Learned, etc.
  • Manage projects across multiple cross functional teams (e.g., Operations, Sales Product, Technology)
  • Lead project teams and manage all activities in a project lifecycle (initiating, planning, executing/controlling & closing)
  • Consult with business partners to clarify and define project requirements and business case. Provide recommendations to clients that support best practices and ensure positive member experience
  • Understand complex problems and proactively focus on bringing issues to resolution, escalating as necessary to meet timelines
  • Represent implementation team throughout sales process and prospect presentations, as needed
  • Identify and initiate internal process improvements; lead special projects as assigned

Required Qualifications:



  • 5+ years of experience in the management of large, complex implementation projects in the healthcare industry
  • Proficiency with MS Project, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, and SharePoint



Preferred Qualification:



  • PMP Certification

The salary range for this role is $89,800 to $176,700 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
