Media Communications Specialist 1 - 135113

Reporting to the Directors, the Public Communication Specialist is responsible for supporting Center research initiatives through the design and execution of data visualization projects and visual documentation of Center spatial and programmatic activities.

Responsibilities include collaborating with the Director on designing new visualizations, documenting programming at field sites, and conducting limited curation and pre-production and post-production work for Center communication portals like websites, print publications and exhibitions.

• Bachelor's degree in related area such as cognitive science, environmental sciences, arts and humanities, the natural and physical sciences and / or equivalent experience / training.

• Basic knowledge of concepts and principles of news, media communications and media relations.

• Basic skills in social media and electronic communications to disseminate messages to target audiences.

• Basic knowledge of the location, its achievements, mission, vision, goals, objectives, programs and infrastructure.

• Basic written, verbal, interpersonal communication skills and political acumen.

• Basic organizational skills.

• Skill to maintain confidentiality.

• Basic knowledge of safety, legal, cultural and regulatory requirements relative to field research responsibility.

• Basic knowledge of research discipline, principles, concepts, analysis and / or operations.

• Strong attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

• Demonstrates ability to work in ambiguous conditions.

• Proven ability to work independently and with a team, and to meet deadlines with minimal supervision. Experience performing under pressure of deadlines.

• Ability to keep clear and accurate records.

• Strong communication skills with research and education partners and project team.

• Excellent interpersonal communication skills including tact, diplomacy and flexibility with students, staff, faculty, and visitors from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

• Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.

• Position requires flexible work schedule and location, including time spent in the campus studio, at off- campus community meetings related to Community Stations programming and planning, and in the 4 UCSD Community Stations field sites located in San Ysidro, in Encanto (both in San Diego), and in the Laureles Canyon (Tijuana). Must be able and willing to work occasionally on weekends and nights.

• Must have reliable transportation and be legally able to travel to and from the United States. Must be familiar with Tijuana and be comfortable traveling in Mexico. Mandatory CANRA (Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act) Reporter - must read and sign an acknowledgement of status and reporting.
