We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Chicago for a VP Professional Satisfaction on our Professional Satisfaction/Practice Sustainability (PS2) team. This is a hybrid position reporting into our Chicago, IL office.

This role oversees the Professional Satisfaction and Practice
Sustainability (PS2) units work to reduce administrative burdens and increase
professional satisfaction to return joy, meaning, and purpose to the physician
profession. The role will advance AMA's organizational well-being offerings,
including the Organizational Biopsy, Joy in Medicine Health System
Recognition program, learning communities, coaching, boot camps, webinars, and
other resources and tools. The role is responsible for developing the strategy and
evolution of AMA's work in physician well-being to increase engagement and
impact. The role will build external relationships to enhance AMA's thought
leadership, reputation, and standing in advancing physician well-being.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategy, Planning, and Business Development

  • Lead the strategic planning process involving the senior management team to define the AMA's role and relevance in organizational well-being. Understand the evidence, set a five-year vision, and translate it into actionable plans for the AMA to address issues facing physicians. A particular focus is on advancing efforts that activate real change to improve professional satisfaction for the physician community.
  • Collect business intelligence, identify opportunities, and test assumptions to further define and accelerate AMA's well-being strategy. Make evidence-based decisions on current and new programs and resources.
  • Represent physicians' and care teams' ongoing needs and requirements to improve professional satisfaction through initiatives, partnerships, and resource/product development.
  • Develop and provide thought leadership through research and collaborations with key external stakeholder groups. Serve as a medical subject matter expert and represent the AMA at national conferences/events and on appropriate boards and committees.
  • Strengthen the AMA as a leader in professional well-being by leading relationships with partners, including health systems, private practices, and academics.
  • Assess and maximize the fit of our strategy objectives and opportunities with adjacent AMA initiatives and programs, including advancing our Health System Partnership Program.
  • Provide physician expertise on research efforts Lead/provide authorship of appropriate research articles.
  • Understand and collaborate on strategic initiatives across the organization, participate in internal AMA efforts, align AMA's organizational well-being strategy with the overall AMA mission and business trajectory, and support membership growth.

Integrated Program Management and Operations

  • Plan and direct the operations of our organizational well-being group, including coordinating with key stakeholders and operational resources across the AMA.
  • Develop and implement programs, processes, and partnerships focused on improving physician well-being and strengthening the AMA as the leader in addressing physician burnout.
  • Oversee the development and oversight of management, project, and product development plans. Collaborate with internal stakeholders including the corporate review team, as well as legal and finance teams, as required.
  • Identify budget, staffing, and funding needs to achieve outcomes. Manage efforts to meet budget, team, and unit goals.
  • Create and manage a communications strategy with internal and external partners to disseminate our work and accomplish key goals.
  • Create impact focused metrics and processes.
  • Track and report progress toward the well-being strategy's goals and objectives
  • Present analyses and recommendations to cross-functional implementation teams and senior and executive management.

Staff Management

  • Determine staffing requirements and hire and train staff as needed. Support staff development and career advancement and address succession planning as required.
  • Lead and manage staff to ensure optimal performance for our strategic goals. Build consensus for decisions and collaborate with team and colleagues.
  • Set objectives and monitor performance, create development plans, and address issues as they arise.
  • Support the advancement of the organization's diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.

May include other responsibilities as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. MD or DO is required, and additional education in business, health care administration, or a related field is preferred. A background in organizational improvements, leading change, and well-being is also preferred.
  2. Minimum 10+ years of healthcare focused as a practicing physician or physician experience in industry, consulting, or government.
  3. 8 + years previous work within a health system at a leadership level, such as Chief Wellness Officer, Chief Medical Officer, or other leadership role.
  4. 7+ years of experience in people management; able to grow and develop talent.
  5. Strong knowledge of healthcare delivery and the physician's role as a practicing physician, understanding the challenges physicians face.
  6. Demonstrated experience as the primary manager of complex matrixed programs with projects, budgets, direct reports, partnerships, and accountability for outcomes.
  7. Experience with organizational transformation to address physician well-being.
  8. Proven ability to think strategically, build a strategic roadmap, and then translate broad concepts into detailed, tactical, and executable plans is critical, as well as seeing the whole while working on the parts and understanding when course corrections may be necessary.
  9. Ability to communicate, present, and motivate physicians and staff about efforts to improve their practice/health system, including improving physician well-being outcomes, making positive changes to the practice work environment, and making meaningful use of EHRs and innovative technologies to improve patient care.
  10. Demonstrated effective written communication skills, including scientific writing, thorough analysis, and evaluations.
  11. Strong presentation skills from a small group of executive leaders to national stage presence; represents the organization to customers, the public, health system executives, and other external sources.
  12. Strong leadership, interpersonal, collaborative, and teamwork-building skills are critical, as well as the ability to interface effectively cross-functionally and with all levels of the AMA.
  13. Exceptional interpersonal skills. Develops constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintains them.
  14. Moderate travel is required.

This role is an exempt position, and the salary range for this position is $347,820-$469,710. This is the lowest to highest salary we believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee's pay within the salary range will be determined by a variety of factors including but not limited to business consideration, geographical location, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
