  1. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PURPOSE (Job Description)



The Sheetmetal Mechanics are responsible for accomplishing work in accordance with work specifications safety, with the highest quality, in a professional manner




  1. POSITION DEMANDS (Education/Training)




Typically has a High School diploma or equivalent plus five (5) years directly related experience in a Shipyard Environment.


POSITION DEMANDS (Required Experience)






    1. Must have at least 5 years' experience working on Navy ships and have the ability to navigate a ship and understand compartment designation
    2. Must be able to read and interpret mechanical drawings, layout, fabricate, install and repair sheetmetal products related to shipboard construction HVAC and habitability and have an excellent knowledge of the various types of metals and sizes.
    3. Excellent knowledge of habitability layout and installation of metal joiner (MJ) bulkheads, MJ doors, berths, galleys and office outfitting
    4. Must be able to repair sheetmetal products related to Shipboard construction HVAC and Habitability
    5. Ability to plan, organize and prioritize
    6. Must have full knowledge of Work Authorization Form (WAF)
    7. Must be able to complete work with little or no guidance from Supervisor
    8. Must have basic knowledge of Standard Items
    9. Works well with others

  1. VISUAL REQUIREMENTS



Required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operating machines where the seeing job is at or within arm's reach or performing mechanical or skilled trades' tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as ones by electricians, technicians, service people, painters, mechanics, etc.




  1. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS



Reports to the Sheetmetal Shop Foreman / General Foreman.




  1. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES



  1. Assemble ventilation runs in accordance with drawings, specifications and meet Navy shipboard standard detail requirements, with little to no supervision
  2. Ensure tank/compartment has an updated safe for hot work ticket and that requirements of the ticket have been met (ex., ventilation, lighting, safety equipment, etc.)
  3. Ensure conditions of the tank/compartment have not changed since the ticket was written (ex., fuel run back, unsafe working conditions, etc.)
  4. Ensure that WAF ticket is on the job site and that it is for the specific job being accomplished. Must ensure that no work will be accomplished without a WAF posted at location of repairs.
  5. Ensure that any other safety issues are complied with that relate to the specific job being accomplished (ex., special staging, face shields for grinding, protective clothing for hot work related jobs, breathing apparatus with correct cartridges, etc.)
  6. Ensure that you are trained for qualified for the work you are assigned to do (ex., JLG, forklift, welding, brazing, special electrical/mechanical repairs, etc.)
  7. Ensure that you and personnel working under your direction are working safely and as productively as possible, maintaining quality control at all times
  8. Ensure that job site is left in a safe and clean condition prior to departure
  9. Ability to complete assignment with little supervision

  1. UNIQUE/ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS



Pay Range: $31.73 - $41.64 Hourly

The pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity. At NASSCO Bremerton we anticipate making salary offers between the minimum and midpoint of salary range. Offers will be based on experience, abilities, and knowledge similar to the NASSCO Job being applied for NASSCO employees performing similar work.

As a NASSCO team member, you (and your family) will have access to medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance, and other voluntary insurance benefits. Additionally, NASSCO employees earn paid vacation from date of hire, accrued at 2.31 hours for every week worked, seven paid holidays, and one personal day per year. Team members participating in a 401(k) retirement plan will receive a 6% match on a 6% enrollment election. Additionally, we offer tuition and training reimbursement(s).
