SUMMARY Performs electrical and instrumentation work assignments for the Instrument & Controls Department based on job requests from the Production Department. The I/E Technician position contains five levels of progression. Primary responsibilities listed below are for a level 5 (highest level of progression) I/E Technician. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES May include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Installs, troubleshoots and calibrates pressure, level, flow, temperature and other instruments. 2. Installs, troubleshoots and calibrates control valves, solenoid valves, and positioners. 3. Performs instrumentation loop checks. 4. Troubleshoots control systems including control panels, PLC's, and microprocessor-based systems. 5. Familiar with the use of digital multimeters, handheld communicators and calibration test equipment. 6. Troubleshoots, calibrates and repairs Gas Chromatographs. 7. Ability to read P&ID's Loop Diagrams and Schematic Drawings. 8. Understands basic computer functions and programs. 9. Proficient at use of hand tools. 10. Performs voltage and current measurements on low voltage power and control circuits. 11. Performs proof testing of control and interlock systems. 12. Performs configuration of and troubleshoots wireless instrumentation systems. 13. Performs shift work assignments as required to support the plant needs. 14. Thoroughly completes all required PM documentation for tasks such as ISO, Environmental, DOT,and PSM PM's. 15. Assists in training of others as required. ADDITIONAL DUTIES 1. Promptly report Safety, Health or Environmental issues or incidents to management. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS * A current, valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card is required. * High School graduate plus one to two years of additional education in electrical, instrumentation or analyzer schools required. Minimum two years of field experience in the Instrumentation/Electrical field required. * Four plus years of field experience in the Instrumentation/Electrical field preferred. * NICET Level 2 or higher certification a plus. * Ability to read P&ID's, schematics loop diagrams. * Microsoft Office software (specifically, Word, Excel, Outlook). * Use of Digital Multimeters, Electronic Test Equipment. * Written and Oral Communication. * Successful candidates must satisfy background screening, including motor vehicle record screening, drug testing and preemployment physical requirements before starting work. * Must have experience with the following instrumentation: 1. Rosemount & Honeywell Smart Transmitters. 2. Repair and calibration of process control valves. 3. Various types of flow meters (Coriolis, DP, Multi-variable, Vortex, etc.). 4. Analytical Instrumentation (Moisture, LEL, O2, pH). 5. Temperature measurement devices (RTD's, TC's, controllers). PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, bend, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. This job requires response to audible emergency alarms inside the plant. Employee must be able to evacuate when required. WORK ENVIRONMENT The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate inside, but can be high outside. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators. Inside exposure includes but not limited to A/C 30% of the time. Outside exposure includes but not limited to outside elements 70% of the time. May be exposed to finished carpet, tile/linoleum and/or outside concrete or gravel. Job may require working in both closed and open quarters. Exposure to dust, fumes, and gasses are at a minimum on the inside, and can be moderate outside. Westlake is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
