 This position is located at the George Washington Carver Center in Beltsville, MDWorking hours are 5:00 am - 1:30 pm, Monday - FridayThis is a full-time position with benefitsThis position pays $20.14 per hourPre-employment criminal background checks, government security clearance checks, and drug testing are required
 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 
  
 Cuts lawns, using a hand mower or power mowerTrims and edges around walks, flower beds, and walls, using clippers and edging toolsPrunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth, using shearsRakes leaves and cleans or sweeps up litter using spiked stick or broomShovels snow from walks and drivewaysSpreads salt on public passagewaysPlants grass, flowers, trees, and shrubsWaters lawn and shrubs during dry periods using a hose or by activating a fixed or portable sprinkler systemCleans out drainage ditches and culverts, using a shovel and rakeMay operate walking-type power mowers, snowblowers, rototillers, or riding mowersMay operate chain saws, hedge trimmers, and other handheld power-operated tools to prune, cultivate, shovel, trim, cut, and digMay use tractors equipped with attachments, such as mowers, lime or fertilizer spreaders, and lawn rollerMay perform a variety of laboring duties when yard work is completedOther duties as assigned

 The Grounds Foreman supervises the incumbent
 PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS 
  
 The incumbent must be able to stand 33%, walk 33% and sit 33% of the work timeThese requirements are necessary to operate riding mowers to cut and trim grass, plant vegetation, rake, shovel, etcHe/she must be able to lift/carry 60 pounds and push/pull 100 pounds, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and handle, in order to load and unload materials and equipment; must be able to alert oneself to safety hazards and have a method of communication so those around can understand and respondMust be able to see and tell colors, as driving and operating power equipment is requiredMainly work outside. Working conditions are subject to extreme temperatures and weather conditions. Work conditions may be inconvenienced by dust, dirt, fumes, or flying objects (grass).Due to the nature of work, occasionally heavy lifting is involved, requiring lifting and handling of heavy equipment. Lifting materials such as flats, mulch, fertilizer, lime, seed, and related items weighing up to 100 pounds.
 QUALIFICATIONS  
  
 At least 1 year of experience in Landscape maintenance work including experience in mowing with a push mower and weedingShould be able to provide own transportation to the work siteMust be able to work independently
