We are currently seeking a growth-minded individual who would like to take our exploration/drilling services practice in the Omaha, NE office to the next level! As an Operating Group Exploration Manager with Terracon, you will exhibit leadership and influence teams of employees responsible for the execution of exploration services working out of Omaha, NE. You will work under the direction of the Regional Manager of Exploration Services and will be responsible for the day-to-day scheduling, coordination, and safe operation of local site exploration (drilling) crews.
You will also promote the safety, profitability, growth and quality of Exploration Services and implement strategic initiatives for the office.

This is a leadership role in standardizing and supporting adoption of companywide processes for the exploration service line. You will develop, identify and assess opportunities for growth and assist with recruiting and onboarding key hires. In addition, you will monitor the effectiveness of approaches, safety, and recommend improvements while implementing Strategic and annual Operations Plans initiatives within Service Line.

Essential Role and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage the local exploration schedule in coordination the Geotechnical and Environmental teams, and Project Management activities related to exploration fees and Contract Exploration Services.
  • Schedule and manage preventative maintenance of exploration equipment.
  • Provide guidance and service line leadership to promote safety, profitability and growth of the service line consistent with the overall strategic plans of the company.
  • Manage local exploration staff and equipment
  • Support exploration staff in training, orientation and development in areas that include:
    • Host monthly safety meetings
    • Review drill rig safety topics and training
    • Safety Processes
    • Equipment preventive maintenance
    • Innovation & efficiency
    • Quality
  • Work with Regional Manager of Exploration Services and operations leadership to develop and implement a strategy for capital purchases and on-going budget planning for exploration resources.
  • Provide leadership and direction on exploration practices and rig utilization/fleet management/load leveling in partnership with operations leadership.
  • Develop understanding and be aware of project-related risks and assist local operations with reducing project risks by anticipating project risks and implementing mitigating measures. Be familiar with company risk policies and routinely serve as or support assigning Project Executive, SME, or APR for large, complex, and/or high-risk projects. Provide senior level program management for highly visible, large impact projects.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Geology, Associate's degree in technical discipline practiced by the Firm including Exploration, Engineering, Environmental Science or Geology and/or equivalent experience.
  • 5 years' practice experience. Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 10 years' related experience operating and/or managing drill crews.
  • Minimum 5 years' site exploration experience, 10 preferred.
  • Minimum 5 year's management experience preferred, but consideration with extended field experience.
  • Ability to travel to other Terracon offices and/or project sites as needed to support exploration services.
  • Demonstrated proficient knowledge of multiple exploration methods including CPT, mud rotary, auger and coring techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience in influencing peers and superiors to achieve positive change in the absence of a direct reporting obligation.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history. CDL preferred.
Preferred Certification:
  • Certification or licensure in field of expertise.
  • Commercial driver's license
