We are seeking a System Administrator. In this position you will maintain, operate and support computing infrastructure supporting technical research being done at APL. You will work independently as well as team with technical staff across multiple disciplines to respond to user needs and new customer requirements.

As a System Administrator

You will perform troubleshooting and triage assessment across Windows, Linux, and other server, storage, and network systems, efficiently diagnosing, resolving and escalating technical issues. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee and respond to system alerts, perform scheduled maintenance, and manage customer-submitted tickets to ensure system reliability and performance.
  • Deploy, configure, and maintain systems, diagnose and resolve technical issues, and process system access requests in alignment with security and operational policies.
  • Documenting technical issues, solutions, and customer interactions for knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
  • Monitoring system health and reporting potential issues proactively.
  • Supporting virtualization technologies such as VMware, OLVM, and Proxmox.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Have a Bachelors in Computer Science, Information Technology or another field relevant to the work as described above, and at least one (1) year of professional experience or an Associate's degree with at least two (2) years of professional relevant work experience. Four (4) years of relevant professional work experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • Possess knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Are skilled in troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Can effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical users.
  • Are a motivated self-starter with solid organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Are customer-focused with a commitment to providing excellent support.
  • Are able to obtain Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have a Master's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Computer Information Systems or related field.
  • Experience with virtualization platforms like VMware, OLVM, or Proxmox.
  • Experience with Windows domains and Windows Server 2016 or greater, GPOs.
  • Experience with security auditing and configuration management tools.
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with MFA Administration
  • Previous experience working in a customer-facing IT administrator role.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development. $85,000 Annually

Maximum Rate

$180,000 Annually
