Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

This paragraph summarizes the general nature, level and purpose of the job.

Perform diagnostic and therapeutic clinical procedures as defined in the Respiratory Care Services scope of clinical practice. Work performed in accordance with physician orders. Defined duties are performed in neonatal, pediatric and adult patient populations. This is an entry level position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Employees must abide by all Joint Commission Requirements including but not limited to sensitivity to cultural diversity, patient care, patient rights and ethical treatment, safety and security of physical environments, emergency management, teamwork, respect for others, participation in ongoing education and training, communication and adherence to safety and quality programs, sustaining compliance with National Patient Safety Goals, and licensure and health screenings.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.

* Administers aerosolized medication via Intrapulmonary Percussive Ventilation (IPV), Intermittent Aerosol Therapy (HHN), Metered Dose Inhaler (MDI or Dry Powder Inhalers (DPI))
* Administers medical gases including heated high flow nasal cannula
* Performs routine trach care and changes
* Performs age-specific assessments
* Assure correct set-up, safety and function of all equipment/supplies necessary in the provision of patient care.
* Documents results and findings in the patient's electronic medical record
* Performs airway clearance therapies and maneuvers
* Performs bedside pulmonary mechanics (e.g. peak flow)
* Recognizes life threatening situations and initiates response including CPR and bag-mask ventilation
* Performs nasotracheal and artificial suctioning
* Provides education to patients and families
* Competent in the application mechanical ventilator modalities, including high frequency
* Competent in the application of Non-Invasive ventilation.
* Understands pharmacological indications, dosages and reports and responds to adverse drug reactions.
* Competence in acute care units and one intensive care unit
* Participates in clinical discussion, patient care rounds and care plans for patients
* Performs diagnostic cardiopulmonary procedures (e.g. EKG)
* Transports patients within the hospital
* Assess skin as related to interface with respiratory therapy equipment

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: Completion of a CoARC approved respiratory care program
Experience: One (1) year of experience as an RCP in an acute care facility or have completed the LPCHS Respiratory Care Residency Program.

License/Certification:
  • NRP Provider Card by American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)
or
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support by American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Basic Life Support by American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner by California Respiratory Care Board
  • NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist by National Board for Respiratory Care
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support by American Heart Association (AHA)
KNOWLEDGE

These are the observable and measurable attributes and skills required to perform successfully the essential functions of the job and are generally demonstrated through qualifying experience, education or licensure/certification.

* Ability to adjust communications to fit the needs and level of understanding of the receiver.
* Knowledge of Medical Terminology.
* Knowledge of new technologies (in specific field) and maintain and stay abreast of updates and changes.
* Knowledge of the indications, contraindications, and hazards of continuous long*term or short term mechanical ventilation, various respiratory therapy techniques, and anatomy, physiology and pathology related to the respiratory system required.

    Pay Range
    Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.
    Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
    Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.
    Minimum to Midpoint Range (Hourly): $59.91 to $67.90
