Community Scholars Resident Director/Graduate Assistant

Requirements

Position Summary

The Graduate Assistant (GA) position will compromise two parts: assisting the leadership of the Community Scholars Program in preparing for the incoming cohort of students for Summer 2025 and serving as the Resident Director during the Summer 2025 program. Prior to the program (May 22nd - July 1, 2025), the GA will provide administrative and programming support in the CMEA office. During this time, the GA will prepare travel and programming logistics, as well as prepare to assume the role of supervisor to six Community Advisors (CAs). During the next six weeks (July 2- August 9, 2025), the GA will serve as the Resident Director and will live in the residence hall with the students. The GA will be responsible for the management of the residential aspect of the program. The GA is expected to serve as an scholar practitioner by developing the leadership of students, and encouraging community building and involvement. This position requires a great deal of flexibility, as work hours during the program will include evening, weekend, and overnight shifts. In addition, this position requires a great deal of patience, conflict resolution skills, a deep understanding of diversity and social justice, and the ability to respond quickly to emergency situations.

COVID-19 precautionary clause: CMEA recognizes the ongoing effects and spread of the COVID-19 in the United States and the continued complexity of the evolving situation. In recognizing that this role is predominantly student-facing, CMEA will work hard to give prompt notice on the ability to hire for this role contingent upon approval by the University and the course of the global health pandemic. Telework is not an option for this role. Any party desiring to withdraw from the interview and selection process will, when the cause arises, give prompt notice to the other party.

Specific job duties include, but are not limited to:

Prior to the Program (average 25 hours per week)
  • Arrange travel itineraries for participants to and from campus
  • Revise Community Advisors training manual and protocol, define expectations and assign duties for CAs, and prepare workshops for CA training week (June 22- July 1, 2025)
  • Plan large group community building activity for program participants
  • Update and finalize CSP Student Handbook
  • Reach out to campus partners to prepare programs/workshops for program participants, and reserve spaces and equipment
  • Attend meetings with CSP leadership with the Director & Assistant Director of Academic Success
  • Attend meetings with deans and program faculty alongside the Program Director & Assistant Director
  • Assist in any administrative duties assigned by the Assistant Director of Academic Success


Residents Assistant
  • Supervise six - 8 CAs throughout the entire summer program
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of CA training
  • Manage duty scheduling and serve on-call for the duration of the 5 week program
  • Lead and facilitate weekly meetings with Residential team
  • Support CAs with the roommate agreement process
  • Mediate conflicts that may arise between CAs and program participants
  • Attend and support programs planned by CAs
  • Evaluate CAs performance at the end of the program
  • Serve as a mentor and educator to the CAs


Program Participants
  • Manage issues of conduct and rule violations
  • Mediate students' interpersonal conflict
  • Hold floor meetings to address concerns and make announcements
  • Implement programs on and off campus
  • Serve as a mentor and resource for program participants
  • Respond to emergency situations and be on call throughout the duration of the program


Overall CSP and CMEA
  • Prepare for and attend individual weekly meetings with the Program Director
  • Participate in all CSP faculty and team meetings
  • Communicate any concerns or issues immediately to the Program Director
  • Attend weekly CSP team meetings with the Program Director and CAs
  • Complete at least 5 office hours per week at CMEA to serve as drop-in meeting time for scholars and/student staff
  • Assist in any administrative duties assigned by the Program Director


Position Expectations

The GA for the Community Scholars Program is considered a CMEA staff member. Therefore, the GA must exhibit professionalism and maturity at all times. The GA is expected to:
  • Move into housing on Georgetown campus on Monday, May 22nd before 4 PM
  • Depart from residence hall on Saturday, August 9, 2025 after 4 pm
  • Spend every night at the residence hall from Sunday, June 22, 2025 - Saturday, August 9, 2025
  • Follow all the CSP rules and regulations expected of program participants related to conduct and behavior
  • Attend all training sessions scheduled by CMEA, the department of Residential Living, and the Division of Student Affairs
  • Attend all CSP and CMEA meetings, programs, and events scheduled throughout the summer
  • Display leadership skills and acts as a role model for CAs and program participants at all times
  • View this position as the only commitment during the duration of the program. Due to the intensity of the program, this position does not allow for you to hold any other jobs or internships during this time.


Qualifications
  • Candidates must be enrolled in or have recently graduated from a Master's degree program in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field
  • Preference will be given to candidates with substantial experience in residence life, extensive involvement in multicultural affairs, program planning experience, and a commitment to leadership development


Incentives
  • Housing (single room) will be provided from Monday, May 22nd - Saturday, August 9, 2025
  • A weekly CA training and when the meal plan begins (Sunday, June 22 - Sunday, July 6, 2025)
  • 14-meal plan (14 meals per week) will be provided from Sunday, July 6 - Saturday, August 9, 2025
  • $22.00 per hour salary with an average work week of 25 hours prior to the program (4 weeks) and 40 hours during the program (6 weeks)


Incentives
  • Housing (single room) will be provided from Monday, May 22nd - Saturday, August 9, 2025
  • A weekly CA training and when the meal plan begins (Sunday, June 22 - Sunday, July 6, 2025)
  • 14-meal plan (14 meals per week) will be provided from Sunday, July 6 - Saturday, August 9, 2025
  • $22.00 per hour salary with an average work week of 25 hours prior to the program (4 weeks) and 40 hours during the program (6 weeks)
