The Theatre Program seeks a dedicated and collaborative Theatre artist to support its dynamic undergraduate program and production season. This full-time, visiting position supports a 4-show production season and teaching within a theatre department. A national tenure-track search for this position will be conducted the following year, and the visiting faculty member is encouraged to apply. Responsibilities
-
- Teach a 30-credit per academic year load encompassing teaching responsibilities and reassigned time for directing work. This will be approximately four courses per semester with the reassigned time for directing work each semester.
- Potential courses include theatre history, playwrighting, musical theatre, script analysis, acting, and theatre general education.
- Direct a musical in the fall and oversee a student led production in the spring as part of the UT Theatre's main production season.
- Perform defined campus-wide duties, including holding office hours, attendance at department and division meetings, and adherence to college, division, and university policies and procedures. Communicate clearly with students, staff, and colleagues, both orally and in writing. Commitment to student recruitment, mentorship, and retention initiatives within the department and university. Willingness to accept varied responsibilities within the department and college to fulfill the needs of the program.

Qualifications

- MFA or Ph.D. required; specialization in Directing, Theatre History, Musical Theatre, or related field preferred.
- Demonstrated dedication to teaching students from a variety of backgrounds with differing levels of experience.
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
- Balanced understanding of the Theatre as a business and creative form.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate successfully as a member of a production team, fostering an inclusive learning environment, and proactively promote student success within an academic theatre program.
- One (1) to three (3) years of college level teaching experience with the ability to develop engaging coursework preferred.
- Experience in Musical Theatre as an actor and/or director preferred.
- Experience in directing for film not required but welcomed.

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time (9-month) professional-track faculty position. Faculty service begins August 2025, with pay and benefits starting July 1, 2025. Annual salary of $52,000-$54,000 depending on qualifications and experience, with additional compensation available for optional summer/overload teaching.
