Responsibilities

The Associate General Counsel - Chief Professional Liability Counsel supervises the professional liability team. This attorney is a senior member of the Legal Department and has substantial prior experience defending professional liability claims against physicians and hospitals, along with a strong understanding of insurance coverage and funding issues. This attorney manages a high volume of professional liability claims for hospitals across the system and supervises other attorneys and staff in support of that effort. This attorney leads the Company's professional liability program, including active management of litigation matters, claims, and providing strategic guidance to key stakeholders on professional liability issues.



Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

Required qualifications:

1. J.D. from ABA Accredited Law School

2. Member in Good Standing of State Bar

Preferred qualifications:

1. Minimum of fifteen (15) years of prior legal experience in law firm, public sector, and/or in-house position.

2. At least ten (10) years of experience specifically focused on professional liability claims.

3. Significant experience with hospital or healthcare risk management and exposure control is strongly preferred.

4. Must have experience in the healthcare industry, preferably with hospitals and professional liability claims against physicians.

5. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

6. California licensed attorney preferred, but willing to consider highly qualified candidates not yet licensed in California if they are eligible for California registered in-house counsel status.

7. Eligible for CA Registered In-House Counsel Status if not currently licensed in California.

Benefits may vary based on employment status, i.e. full-time, part-time, per diem or temporary. A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, which includes estimated wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, is $170,372.80 to $278,512.00 on an annualized basis. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
