Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Chemistry Department is one of the largest and most complex departments in the College of Arts and Sciences. There are 50 faculty members, 44 SHRA and 37 EHRA staff positions, 260 graduate students, 37 postdoctoral research associates, 700 undergraduate majors, and an annual total of approximately 10,000 registrations by all students in classroom and laboratory courses. The Department is housed in five buildings with over 580,000 sq. feet of space. The faculty participate in teaching assignments which involve an average of 200 students per faculty member per semester. The majority of faculty are research active and supervise graduate students working on their Masters or Ph.D. degrees, undergraduate students carrying out independent research and honors programs, research technicians and postdoctoral research associates. Primarily the research is funded by federal and private agencies such as NSF, NIH, Army, Navy, DOE, PRF and involves expenditures of more than nineteen million dollars annually. A total of over thirty-two million dollars from all sources is expended annually in the Department.
Position Summary
The primary purpose of the UNC SERC and CHASE University Program Associate will be to support the Directors of the UNC SERC, Sustainable Energy Research Consortium, (https://serc.web.unc.edu) and the DOE Basic Energy Sciences Hub the Center for Hybrid Approaches in Solar Energy ( CHASE) to Liquid Fuels (www.chaseliquidfuels.org) in the Chemistry Department at UNC Chapel Hill with a variety of business activities involved with a major research Center. The role will report directly to the CHASE Deputy Director of Management and the SERC Director, and will work closely with the CHASE Directorate and the CHASE Technical Communications and Intellectual Property Manager.

The role involves high levels of independence, autonomy, decision making, and encompasses a large breadth of tasks and administrative support to two major research Centers, SERC and CHASE. This role oversees communications and logistics for the CHASE and SERC centers, managing internal and external inquiries and ensuring smooth operations for center directors including budget management, event planning, database maintenance, and providing support for DOE reporting, including pre- and post-award. Additionally, this role's support includes calendar management, meeting organization, and facilitating efficient committee functions.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience in a high-paced professional office setting is preferred. Prior experience in event management and working at a university or a public agency is preferred. Experience working within a STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) environment and with multidisciplinary teams is preferred.
