Job Description

Join our legal team as a Subrogation Trial Attorney and take on the exciting challenge of representing the interests of the Company in subrogation cases! In this dynamic role, you'll handle a wide range of subrogation matters, from investigating claims and coordinating with legal teams to navigating trials, arbitrations, and mediations. Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage Subrogation Litigation: Oversee all phases of subrogation litigation, including case assessment, discovery, depositions, motions, pre-trial negotiations, and post-trial motions. Work toward achieving favorable verdicts for clients.
  • Case Preparation and Legal Research: Conduct thorough investigations into cases, gathering relevant documents, evidence, and legal research. Prepare and organize for hearings, trials, arbitrations, mediations, and depositions.
  • Draft Legal Documents: Prepare pleadings, motions, discovery responses, and other legal documents related to subrogation claims.
  • Client and Witness Interaction: Interview clients, witnesses, and other parties involved in the case, and document and summarize their statements to build a strong legal strategy.
  • Courtroom Advocacy: Represent the Company in court hearings, depositions, arbitrations, and other legal proceedings. Advocate effectively for the Company's interests in both routine and complex matters.
  • Regulatory Awareness: Stay up to date with changes in laws, regulations, and industry trends that affect subrogation cases. Update the legal team on these changes and ensure our strategies align with the latest developments.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Coordinate closely with internal legal teams, external counsel, and business clients to ensure cohesive, strategic case management.
  • Ongoing Professional Development: Participate in ongoing training and mentorship programs to refine trial skills, deepen legal knowledge, and take on more complex cases.

Education & Minimum Requirements:

  • Juris Doctorate and active membership in good standing with the State Bar (required jurisdiction: Illinois).
  • Experience or coursework focused on subrogation law, insurance defense, and litigation processes.
  • Strong skills in legal research, writing, and analysis, with the ability to draft clear, effective legal documents.
  • Experience with collections and/or in a high volume collections firm.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to balance multiple cases and deadlines effectively.
  • Proven ability to handle case files, manage discovery, and oversee legal document organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly with clients, witnesses, and colleagues.
  • Strong negotiation and settlement skills, with a focus on maximizing recovery in subrogation claims.
  • Knowledge of legal ethics and the professional conduct standards expected of attorneys.
  • Must be located within a commutable distance of courthouses throughout the greater Chicago area or other designated locations.

Compensation

Compensation offered for this role is $66,800.00 - 120,650.00 annually and is based on experience and qualifications.

The candidate(s) offered this position will be required to submit to a background investigation.
