Position Summary
Winston-Salem State University ( WSSU) invites applications for the position of FMT - Maintenance Technician within the Department of Housing and Residence Life. This position plays a crucial role in maintaining the functionality, safety, and comfort of our residential facilities, ensuring that students have a high-quality living environment that supports their academic success and overall well-being.

Position Overview:
As an FMT - Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for performing routine and emergency maintenance and repairs on various systems and building structures within campus housing. This includes plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and other equipment, ensuring that all work meets university standards for safety, quality, and efficiency. You will work closely with the Maintenance Supervisor and other team members to provide a safe, clean, and comfortable living space for students.

Key Responsibilities:


  • General Maintenance and Repairs: Perform routine maintenance and respond to emergency repair requests in residential buildings. This includes troubleshooting and fixing plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general facility issues.

  • Preventive Maintenance: Carry out regular inspections and preventive maintenance on building systems, such as HVAC units, plumbing, electrical systems, and appliances.

  • Work Order Management: Receive and respond to work orders from Housing staff and students, prioritizing repairs and completing tasks in a timely manner.

  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols to ensure safe working conditions. Maintain tools and equipment in proper working order.

  • Emergency Response: Respond to urgent maintenance issues (e.g., leaks, power outages) in a prompt and efficient manner to minimize disruptions for students.

  • Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service by interacting with students and staff in a professional and courteous manner.
