Technical Project Leader (TPL)-Welder

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

Provides on-the-job working leadership to employees in the assigned areas.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:



  • Provides training assistance to new employees on the line.
  • Assist Supervisors / Assistant Supervisors with verifying hours and accuracy of timesheets.
  • Checks daily availability of necessary materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Works closely with the Supervisor / Assistant Supervisor & the Inspection team to maintain quality and reduce lost time and repairs.
  • Suggest ways to simplify and improve methods and procedures wherever possible.
  • Responsible for observing and enforcing safety practices throughout the plant to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Receives instructions verbally or from job cards and/or detailed prints.
  • May be required to perform up to three types of welding processes including GMAW & GTAW in accordance with various AWS and Military Codes and Specifications. More senior level position may also require the ability to Oxy-Fuel weld.
  • Must be able to read and understand Blueprints (drawings) and associated welding symbols
  • Welds in flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions.
  • Assists with and/or constructs welding jigs and fixtures; some layout required. More senior level position includes designing the layout.
  • Selects proper welding parameters, and electrodes/filler metals for the particular type of metal to be welded which may include ferrous and non-ferrous metals (i.e., aluminum, steel, stainless steel).
  • Performs tack welding and Oxygen/Fuel torch for heating and cutting.
  • Chips, grinds and cleans welds as necessary.
  • Performs other tasks associated with welding, such as joining preparation, clamping, measurement verification, inspection of completed welds and providing count of completed pieces.
  • Uses test equipment (i.e., fixed gages, fillet weld gages, pressure gages) to check work.
  • Senior level position aids in design and debugging of new welding fixtures; assists in establishing and qualifying welding procedure specifications (WPS).
  • Uses various tools and machines which may include GMAW, GTAW welding equipment, automatic welding gun, plasma cutter, oxygen/fuel torch, various grinding apparatus, and other tooling and equipment as needed.
  • Safely operate overhead cranes and hoists
  • Maintains a clean and safe work area.


  • Checks that necessary materials, tools, and equipment are available and applicable to requirements.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

This position has limited supervisory responsibilities.

Required Experience:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:



  • Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information as required by government standards.
  • Ability to interact effectively with peers and supervisors.
  • Ability to interact appropriately with the public when necessary.
  • Ability to adhere to workplace rules.
  • Basic computer skills are required.
  • Ability to accurately read tape measure; convert between fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to read and interpret complicated blueprints.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with others both verbally and in written form.
  • Ability to read routings.
  • Working knowledge of welding equipment, working properties of materials and knowledge of fusion metals.
  • Must be able to pass welder certifications test.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:



  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Vocational degree in welding or equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years of related weld experience.


WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:



  • Shop Floor environment.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motion (rotating wrists, keyboarding, using small/large tools)
  • Ability to liftiup to 50 pounds.

    • Ability to tolerate constant noise (i.e., machine motors)
    • Ability to work safely in the presence of hazardous chemicals and hazardous conditions.

      • Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time.
      • Ability to pass a Pulmonary Function Test
      • Ability to follow standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
