DESCRIPTION
The Part-Time Fitness Wellness Instructor is responsible for conducting a safe and effective aerobic, exercise, aquatic exercise, or conditioning class sponsored by the Department.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Essential Functions:
Must be able to communicate with others in spoken and written English to ensure the safe and efficient operations of the business.
Instructs assigned aerobic, exercise, or fitness classes in a safe manner.
Keeps activity area and storage area neat and assists participants in putting up equipment.
Must change fitness routines at least every six (6) weeks.
Finds a substitute instructor when needed.
Works evenings, weekends and holidays as assigned.
Attends meetings and special training sessions when scheduled.
Enforces the rules and regulations of the facility for the safety and welfare of staff and participants.
Renders aid as needed, including administering CPR and using and AED device.
Accurately communicates information to assigned supervisors in a timely and useful manner.
Monitors class participants to ensure proper exercise techniques are being used and assists participants who need assistant or are in physical distress.
Assists with various exercise programs and camps throughout the City when Fitness Wellness Instructors are requested.

Physical Demands:
Work is performed typically standing and walking; however, bending, stooping, sitting, reaching, squatting, hopping, jumping, climbing stairs, and lifting and carrying recreational equipment and supplies weighing up to ten (10) pounds is required on an intermittent basis.
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited high school or GED equivalent required.
Must possess a current Fitness Wellness Instructor certification by the Aerobics & Fitness Association of America (AFAA), American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), or American Council on Exercise (ACE) or another credible certifying agency.
Knowledge of current fitness science and the ability to use such knowledge while instructing class.
Ability to design class activities to accommodate beginner, intermediate and advanced movements for a variety of fitness classes.
Ability to instruct patrons in proper exercise techniques.
Ability to work with different age groups.
Ability to work flexible hours with some evening and weekend work required.
Ability to learn and follow City policies and regulations.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
Must possess current CPR/AED certifications or the ability to acquire same within three (3) months from date of hire. Failure to obtain the CPR/AED certifications within three (3) months will result in termination.
Equipment Usage:
The Fitness Wellness Instructor should be able to use different kinds of sound equipment.
