The External Reporting Leader leads a broad range of financial reporting activities for the Global Finance Operations & Reporting (GFOR) organization, including leadership of External Reporting and Technical Accounting and delivers the following results to the organization:
- Driving the external reporting process for 10-Ks and 10-Qs
- Research, implementation and education for new accounting and SEC pronouncements
- Internal consulting through researching and guiding stakeholders on technical accounting issues including development of GAAP accounting policies
- Continuously improving external reporting and accounting processes to gain efficiency and effectiveness
- Supporting senior management, investor relations, treasury, legal, corporate strategy & financial planning, compensation & benefits, corporate function leaders and external auditors
- Assist in the preparation and review of the Company's proxy statements, bond prospectuses and investor materials
The position reports to: Assistant Controller Span of control: Leads team of finance professionals
- Lead the quarterly financial reporting process for SEC filings.
- Coordinates timing and communication of all tasks and events for SEC filings to OC personnel.
- Leads discussion on significant or complex accounting items with Disclosure Committee, GFOR NLT, external auditors and earnings call prep team. Maintains technical accounting repository for documentation on key items.
- Works with external auditors to communicate significant accounting issues and to coordinate review and sign off on SEC document at quarter ends.
- Oversees completion and review of consolidated financial statements, footnote disclosures, XBRL and final document for filing and obtains the appropriate signatures.
- Reviews documentation for accounting standard implementations to ensure that our adoption, transition and disclosure is compliant. Monitors the regulatory environment for new and changing disclosure requirements. Drives communication with regional accounting teams to ensure broad awareness for new standards across the global organization.
- Drafts Management's Discussion & Analysis and aligns messaging with investor relations, business segment finance leaders, legal and treasury.
- Reviews SEC filings and investor materials to ensure that non-GAAP financial measures are properly presented, explained and reconciled in the disclosures. Collaborates with investor relations and legal department on new disclosures in investor materials.
- Partners with the Internal Controls Leader to analyze the financial statement materiality of control deficiencies.
- Leverages capabilities of internal technology and the Workiva external reporting software to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of financial statement tie-out and analytics.
- Leads the effort to develop and maintain US GAAP accounting policies including communication of changes to accounting policies.
- Lead and develop talent.
- Designs the organization to create meaningful and impactful roles with strong accountability, high visibility and development opportunities.

- Invests in the growth and development of all team members by counseling them on written development plans and internal relationship building strategies.

- Manages an effective training budget to sustain and improve team capabilities.
- Further develop working relationships with other departments
- Teams with various OC departments to achieve common goals.
- Partners with M&A accounting, Finance COE, regional accounting and internal controls on financial reporting for acquisitions (footnotes, cash flow statement, etc.) and integration of OC accounting policies into newly-acquired companies.
- Serves as resource for the Financial Standards Working Team on accounting policy matters.
- Consults with business segment, regional GFOR finance directors and corporate accounting leader on significant technical accounting matters. Provides recommendations and alternative views of the accounting treatment and accounting-related issues, and aligns on the final treatment for significant or complex items.
- Acts as a resource to the non-financial leaders of the business providing education and training on the key principles of finance.
Experience:
- Seven to ten years of combined experience, preferably in various accounting and finance roles with multinational manufacturing companies and "Big 4" public accounting firms
- Bachelor's degree in accounting (MBA or Masters in Accounting preferred)
- CPA required
- An experienced manager and leader of teams
Knowledge and Abilities:
- Broad financial and business acumen, including superb understanding of U.S GAAP concepts, global accounting processes and internal controls
- Strong technical accounting research skills and related experience in blueprinting accounting treatment for complex transactions
- Exposure to SEC filing standards, regulations and procedures
