Typical work hours:
Monday - Friday 6 am to 2:30 pm. Certain times of the year require overtime to include nights and weekends.
The successful candidate will perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair work on a wide variety of gas and electric engines, mowers, power tools, and turf maintenance and field equipment used throughout with the Parks and Cemeteries Divisions of the department. Responsible for maintaining necessary inventory for maintenance of equipment. Performs monthly playground inspections and repairs per the National Program for Playground Safety.

Adjusts and rebuilds small gasoline and diesel engines and systems on a variety of specialized maintenance equipment such as professional mowers, triplex mowers, light weight mowers, trim mowers, small tractors, articulating wide area rotary mowers, aerators, computerized chemical sprayers, slicer seeders, and others; repairs and maintains industrial tractors and loaders; performs testing and repairs on small electric motors and systems.
Sharpens, grinds, adjusts, and repairs reel lawn mowers using specialized grinding equipment; repairs, maintains and rebuilds hydrostatic transmissions, hydraulic control valves, hydraulic motors, pumps, and hoses.
Troubleshoots and repairs simple and complex electrical system problems.
Repairs small engine equipment such as chain saws, compactors, abrasive saws, compaction rollers, large mowers, sweepers, weed string trimmers, generators, and other similar machinery.
Fabricates tool fixtures from designs and makes modifications to customize tools for equipment repair; performs gas and electrical welding.
Orders parts and supplies; maintains an inventory of parts, equipment, and supplies.
Investigates discrepancies using precision measuring tools.
Assist with maintenance of parks and open spaces, may work as department representative at special events held in the parks
Assist with the supervision of division staff
Performs maintenance and routine repair work on municipal facilities such as repairing steps, fences, and doors; maintains and repairs plumbing and irrigation systems; paints interior and exterior surfaces; completes minor construction on small buildings.
Maintains, repair and maintenance records with computerized data processing systems such as word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs.
During winter months assist with snow plowing of city parks and recreation facilities including ice maintenance duties.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education and Experience: High School diploma or GED; and, additional vocational training in engine repair, carpentry, plumbing, and/or electrical repair; and, two years of experience in skilled and semi-skilled trades maintenance and repair work; or, any combination of education, training and experience, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities, required for the job.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid NH Driver's license
Must be able to obtain a valid NH Class (B) Commercial Driver's License with air brake endorsement within six months of employment.
Required to become Certified Playground Inspector and hold a Supervisory Pesticide License within twelve months of employment.
