Position Summary: This position is responsible for supporting the Environmental Health & Safety function at our vast, 63-acre facility. Significant heavy manufacturing takes place both in several fab shops, as well as on the waterfront. The successful candidate will support the 1,000+ working men and women on our waterfront by passionately pursuing innovative and effective safety solutions that focus primarily on employee well-being, manufacturing efficiency and environmental awareness.
Detailed Description:
- Observe and evaluate workplace environments, equipment or practices to ensure compliance with company safety standards as well as all local, State and Federal guidelines.
- Ability to understand the 29CFR 1910 & 1915 and 46CFR COMDTINST M5100.47C.
- Manage facility hazardous waste programs.
- Responsible for Air Quality Management.
- Responsible for Waste Water Management.
- Investigate incidents to identify cause and determine detailed proactive measures to prevent such instances in the future.
- Analyze and recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes or materials.
- Effectively perform and communicate Root Cause Analysis.
- Recommend corrective action when needed, based on vessel and building Audits.
- Ensure employee safety is prioritized for all production and manufacturing personnel. This includes, but is not limited to, conducting incident investigations, inspections, vessel walk-throughs, interactive audits, hazard awareness, SOP & JSA Development and training.
- Understand and support the behavioral based safety training program (DuPont Stop).
- Implement EHS policies, practices and programs.
- Support environmental management and sustainability programs addressing issues such as recycling, conservation and waste management.
- Manage and conduct all aspects of safety training and education programs.
- Ability to demonstrate the use of safety equipment.
- Ensure the adequacy of ventilation, exhaust equipment, lighting or other conditions that could affect employee health, comfort or performance.
- Provide new-employee health and safety orientations and participate in the development of materials.
- Ensure that company, vendors and employees are in compliance with the Global Harmonization System.
- Maintain emergency response plans and procedures.
- Inspect specified areas to ensure the presence of fire prevention equipment, safety equipment and first-aid supplies.
- Collect data samples of various materials for occupational health data collection.
- Ability to handle minor medical treatment and properly triage complex medical injuries or industrial incidents.
- Develop or maintain hygiene programs, such as noise surveys, continuous atmosphere monitoring, ventilation surveys and asbestos management plans.
- Oversee all aspects of Shipyard Competent Person program.
- Ability and willingness to engage in highly energetic pursuits on the waterfront.

Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma
- A minimum of 3 years job-related experience pertaining to safety, healthcare or management
- Qualified candidates must be a certified first responder or have the ability to gain certification
Desired Qualifications:
- Candidates with a degree of study in Occupational Safety & Health or closely related field of study
- OSHA Maritime 10 hour training preferred
- ASP/CSP Certification preferred but not required
- Bilingual language skills (oral & written) a plus
- Active listening skills
- Complex problem solving skills
- Ability to convey information effectively
- Sound judgement and decision making skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including: Word, Excel, Outlook, Access and Power Point
