Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Gillings School's Department of Nutrition is a global leader in research and training. We are the only nutrition department in the United States situated in both a school of public health and a school of medicine. We engage in innovative work that capitalizes on both these schools' approaches to health, and thus our department has an unusual breadth of scientific and policy approaches. Our faculty expertise spans from cell to society and moves from discovery to delivery. Our faculty and students work throughout North Carolina and reach populations in China, India, Malawi, Spain and the Philippines, to name a few.
Position Summary
This position will be responsible for data collection using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry ( DEXA). Study participants are youth ages 13-16 scanned in a lab space on UNC's main campus. Scans take place as needed, scheduled in advance, on weekday afternoons or weekend mornings.

The Research Assistant will instruct the participants, collect the data, keep the space clean and organized, export data as needed, and other tasks to support the project as they relate to DEXA scans.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Strong interpersonal skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills, must be able to work independently; must be able to analyze and interpret policy and procedural guidelines and apply those guidelines appropriately.

Must be able to communicate, connect, and build trust with youth ages 13-16 years. Must have prior experience in a research setting with human subjects data collection. Must have experience with DXA bone density scans.

Experience with research data collection.
