Located in West Des Moines, Iowa, Des Moines University (DMU) is currently seeking qualified applicants for an open rank, tenure or non-tenure track, faculty position in the Department of Anatomy.

The DMU Department of Anatomy team-teaches courses in gross anatomy, neuroanatomy, histology, and embryology to graduate health students in multiple degree programs at DMU (DO, DPM, DPT, OTD, MSPA, and MSA). We also offer additional courses in pedagogy, research, and advanced anatomy for the Masters of Science in Anatomy (MSA) program. Our dissection-based anatomy labs are made possible by the DMU-run Body Donation Program. Our curriculum is integrated to pair foundational, evidence-based anatomy education with clinical medicine courses where anatomy provides the keystone for physical diagnosis. Faculty in the Department of Anatomy conduct scientific research on a variety of topics and have multiple opportunities to engage students in their research program. Non-tenure track faculty focus on teaching, while tenured and tenure track faculty balance research and teaching responsibilities.

The successful applicant is expected to contribute to teaching in Anatomy, service to the University, and develop an active research program (broadly defined). Teaching responsibilities may include delivering lectures, leading labs and small group sessions, or serving as course coordinator for courses within the anatomy curriculum. Service to the University will involve actively participating in academic governance. Research responsibilities will include engaging DMU students in basic science, pedagogical, or clinical research; publishing research findings; and seeking extramural research funding. The University provides startup funds to aid in establishing a research program at DMU in addition to compensation, which is not dependent on grant acquisition.

To qualify, the applicants must have an earned doctorate from an accredited university in a relevant field. Preference will be given to applicants with postdoctoral experience; a demonstrated record of teaching experience in gross anatomy and the other anatomical sciences, especially in neuroanatomy or histology; demonstrated or potential for successful independent scholarly activity, including the ability to sustain an extramurally funded research program (tenure track only); excellent skills in written and verbal communication; and previously developed basic computer skills.

Candidates with questions specific to this position may contact Dr. Donald Matz, Department of Anatomy Chair, email: Donald.Matz@dmu.edu, phone: (515) 271-1653. Candidate review and/or interview scheduling will commence immediately and continue until the position is filled.

Apply at www.dmu.edu/employment. Curriculum Vitae (CV), cover letter, and contact information for three professional references required at time of online submission.
