Des Moines University is seeking a dynamic and proactive Assistant or Associate Director of Alumni Relations (title dependent on experience) to strengthen relationships between the University and its alumni, friends, donors, employees, and students.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Development & Alumni Relations, this hands-on, public-facing role is integral to enhancing alumni engagement and advancing the University's mission. You'll collaborate closely with the Development & Alumni Relations team, as well as faculty, staff, and students, to create impactful experiences that inspire continued involvement and support.

What you'll do:

  • Plan, coordinate & execute all DMU alumni events including, but not limited to, local and national events associated with alumni professional associations including opportunities for alumni engagement at booths, receptions, and dinners. Execute all aspects of event including site selection, contract negotiation, marketing, production of event and post-event follow-up.
  • Build relationships with alumni through consistent relationship-centered contact including phone calls, email correspondence and in-person meetings. Manage and facilitate tours of the university to alumni and community groups as requested.
  • Manage the DMU Alumni Association Board of Directors including two in-person meetings per year, plus committee work through virtual engagements. Guide board to set strategies based on university priorities and current needs of our alumni, students & DMU leadership.
  • Maintain accurate records that capture alumni engagement & biographical information and in partnership with Marketing & Communications, provide ideas and content for the alumni website, alumni e-newsletter, Pulse (DMU internal communications), email and social media efforts. Contribute story ideas, alumni recognition, and overview of alumni services, events, activities and benefits.
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for alumni relations activities, including alumni events, that strengthen alumni involvement and encourage support from alumni for the goals of the University and develop strong student, alumni, staff and other networks that identify individuals as fundraising prospects, volunteers, mentors or event participants.

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Three years' experience in development, alumni relations, or a relationship-building position required.
  • Able to work nights and weekends.
  • Ability to travel local & nationally 30% percent of the time as required.
  • Valid Iowa driver's license and proof of insurance required. Must provide own dependable transportation.

The salary range for this role is between $65,000 - $75,000, depending on experience.
