U.S. Facilities, Inc., a consolidated facility management service company, is seeking an Engineer Specialist Traffic in Fredericksburg who is responsible for conducting complex studies to address the requests for signage, pavement marking, and residential traffic management work efforts. This is to be accomplished on a routine basis as outlined in the following responsibilities:




  • Assist in the development of signal, speed, and safety studies.
  • Perform day-to-day operations of conducting signage, pavement marking, and residential traffic management work efforts by reviewing and tracking work assignments.
  • Respond orally or in writing to local elected officials, government agencies, and the general public regarding traffic engineering issues.
  • Assist in the identification and development of projects to improve transportation system operations, safety, and capacity.
  • Proactively identify transportation improvement projects during study efforts.
  • Coordinate project identification efforts.
  • Perform complex studies ensuring compliance with MUTCD, and VDOT specifications and standards.
  • Prepare written response for distribution to supervisor as well as internal and external customers.
  • Develop appropriate correspondence to address traffic issues in a clear, concise, and timely manner.
  • Provide appropriate assistance to and develop effective working relationship with other governmental agencies.
  • Perform data collection for studies in preparation of sketches and or designs by collecting relevant data and accurately documenting field conditions.
  • Collect and analyze road counts and perform traffic signal turning movement counts.
  • Expedite certain projects and provide staff assistance as needed to complete work efforts.
  • Submit completed work using proper procedures and coordinate with other VDOT units as needed to ensure timely installation.
  • Assist other technicians in development of studies and sketches in compliance with VDOT standards and guidelines.
  • Conduct complex safety studies, roadway and pedestrian safety and capacity analyses, speed studies, and other special studies are conducted appropriately in accordance with traffic engineering principles.
  • Any other duties as assigned by a supervisor and/or USF Senior Project Manager.



Qualifications:

Education:




  • High School Diploma
  • BS degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering preferred; equivalent experience or training may substitute for degree.



Experience/Skill Sets:




  • Skill in verbal and written communications on technical subjects and customer service issues.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively with others.
  • Skill in conducting traffic engineering studies involving traffic operations, traffic control devices, and roadway and pedestrian safety and capacity issues.
  • Ability to develop solutions to complex traffic issues in assigned area.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports and recommendations.
  • Working knowledge of work zone traffic control principles and current practices, standards, and regulations.
  • Working knowledge of standard office and traffic engineering software including CADD.
  • Extensive knowledge of traffic engineering principles, practices, and standards.
  • Ability to collect and analyze traffic related data and develop recommendations and reports.
  • Skill in the use of computers and software applications to include traffic engineering design software such as CADD, MicroStation, Highway Capacity Software, Synchro, CORSIM, SYDRA, etc.
  • Ability to lead and train others.
  • Experience designing plans for traffic control devices, incorporating traffic engineering requirements into roadway plans, and making recommendations for plan changes.
  • Experience in conducting traffic engineering studies involving traffic operations, traffic control devices, and roadway and pedestrian safety and capacity issues.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously and work in a fast-paced, urban environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally, and in writing with internal and external customers.



Work Conditions:



  • Business hours, controlled environment
  • 90-day probationary period required
  • Field work and office work required.



Compensation:

$40.00 - $55.00/hr

Valid driver's license is required. DMV records check is required. Pre-employment drug screen is required. Fingerprint-based Criminal History Records Check is required.
