Position Description
Will work as a member of ERT's Environmental Support Services contract staff, providing support for environmental management systems at NASA Ames Research Center (ARC). Will work closely with the incumbent EMS professional to accomplish a wide variety of tasks related to these duties. Duties include:

  • Performing environmental regulatory analyses and reporting on new regulations relevant to ARC.
  • Auditing compliance of labs, machine shops, and other operational areas indoors and outdoors.
  • Performing the audits collaboratively with staff and management around ARC.
  • Gaining an understanding of mission and operations activities sufficiently to analyze root causes of deficiencies and collaboratively develop effective corrective actions.
  • Identifying opportunities for improvements to operations and cost savings.
  • Reporting noncompliance with Federal, state, and local regulations and requirements, and NASA policies and procedures.
  • Reporting to ARC staff and management on topics related to the environmental management system.
  • Helping to evaluate environmental risks.
  • Coordinating and collaborating with various subject matter experts, program managers and others to improve compliance and operations.
  • Assisting with development of risk management measures and corrective actions.
  • Assisting with training development.
  • Tracking and keeping detailed records on progress of corrective actions and risk management plans.
  • Preparing presentation materials and presenting them.
  • Gathering information from multiple sources, performing analyses, and synthesizing the information into clear technical reports.

Required Skills

  • 1 to 2 years of experience working with regulatory analysis and compliance activities and programs.
  • Must have the ability to understand complex systems of regulations, procedures, physical operations, staff, and equipment.
  • Must understand physical, chemical, and mathematical concepts to perform calculations related to chemical inventories, discharge permits, and other environmental measures.
  • Must be organized and detail oriented with the ability to plan activities and carry them through.
  • Must be able to work in a collaborative, diplomatic, and customer-service oriented manner.
  • Must be able to walk through areas indoors and outdoors for hours in ambient temperatures.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and ability to learn additional computerized systems is required.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Specific experience in conducting and documenting results of environmental audits is highly desirable.
  • Highly desirable to have knowledge of environmental compliance and environmental management systems.
  • Experience conducting site inspections/audits in industrial, aerospace, scientific and medical environments is preferred.

Education
BS in environmental engineering, quantitative environmental program, related discipline or equivalent

Location
The position is on-site at NASA Ames Research Center. During site assessments, full-time on-site work is required. A minimum of 2 on-site visits per week is permitted when site assessments are not occurring.

Salary
The salary range for this role is $51,000 - $136,000/year. This range is a good faith estimate based on similar roles across the organization. ERT considers several factors when extending an offer of employment, including the location, scope, and associated responsibilities of the specific position, as well as a candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills.
