DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position represents an entry-level technical role within a survey team, focusing on the operation of both manual and electronic equipment for various types of surveys, including preliminary assessments, right-of-way evaluations, engineering tasks, bridge inspections, construction oversight, and land and property surveys. The individual will utilize a Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) workstation to convert survey data into foundational maps, which are essential for the creation and planning of highway and bridge projects. Additionally, the role involves assisting in the interpretation of highway plans to facilitate the staking of construction sites. Responsibilities also include the setup, operation, adjustment, and maintenance of diverse survey instruments, which are crucial for establishing centerlines, measuring angles, and verifying the alignment of structures. The individual will stake out tangents, curve stations, and reference control points, while also employing a level to secure ground elevations, set benchmarks, and determine road grades. Proficiency in operating theodolites, electronic distance measuring devices, electronic total stations, data collectors, portable computers, and telecommunications equipment is required. Furthermore, the role entails the use of various Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers and methodologies to pinpoint mapping and survey-grade locations, alongside performing trigonometric and algebraic calculations, preparing field sketches and notes, and reviewing the work of colleagues for accuracy. - Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $39,785 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
- One year of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
