DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Therapeutic Activities Aide, you will conduct planned sessions of resident activities under the direction of the Therapeutic Recreational Services staff. Your work will lead the residents of the Southwestern Veterans' Center to their highest level of physical, cognitive, and social abilities. Your duties will include assisting in planning, organizing, scheduling, and conducting recreational and educational activities to enhance or retain the residents' functionality in the areas of socialization, interpersonal relationships, self-respect, self-esteem, and self-help. You will also conduct and participate in program activities such as social parties, dinners, bus and van rides, games, field trips, crafts, and other leisure time activities. Additionally, you will create a safe space for residents and visitors, maintain working relationships with veteran organizations, and act as a lead worker for volunteers at the center.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with a 30-minute lunch. This may change based on operational needs. You will work every other weekend and holiday.
  • Travel and overtime as needed
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six months of experience as an Aide Trainee (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Six months of work experience providing care to individuals requiring assistance with daily activities; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
