What Your Job Will Be Like:

As the Physical Security Systems Specialist, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding Sandia's assets, personnel, and information through the implementation and management of security systems.

On any given day, your responsibilities may include:



  • Conducting risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities

  • Designing and installing security systems such as access control, surveillance cameras, and alarm systems

  • Ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards

  • Regularly monitoring and analyzing security system performance

  • Coordinating maintenance and upgrades to enhance security measures

  • Provide training and support to staff on security protocols

  • Respond to security incidents

  • Collaborate with our New Mexico counterparts as needed



Salary Range:

$101,300 - $195,300

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:



  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant discipline plus five or more years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of relevant education and directly related experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job

  • Proficiency in security technologies such as CCTV, access control systems, and alarm systems

  • Knowledge of information technology security applications and practices

  • Understanding the convergence of physical security, IT, and cybersecurity, particularly in critical infrastructure

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance

  • Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite



Qualifications We Desire:



  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for reporting, training, and presenting security information to both technical and non-technical personnel

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct thorough quantitative and qualitative assessments to identify vulnerabilities and potential threats to physical assets, in compliance with Department of Energy (DOE) directives

  • Proven experience in planning, maintaining, and recommending electronic and physical security systems, including access control, surveillance, intrusion detection, and alarm systems. Ability to oversee installation, upgrades, and regular maintenance of these systems

  • Proficient in creating, comprehending, and implementing security policies and procedures to enhance physical security measures, ensuring compliance with relevant DOE orders and Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) Safeguards and Security policies

  • Experience in coordinating security efforts and ensuring compatibility with SNL entities in California and New Mexico, acting as a site contact for emergency security system issues

  • Ability to implement technology solutions that align with Sandia security strategies and budget guidelines, while maintaining an in-depth knowledge of state-of-the-art security equipment standards and technology

  • Skilled in developing and maintaining operational processes to ensure security standards are upheld, including conducting audits, assessments, and performance testing of all physical security systems and programs

  • Capability to provide system solutions to specific security concerns identified through customer requests and security audit

  • Relevant certifications such as OnGuard or other Physical Security Systems certifications



About Our Team:

CA Site Security Systems is comprised of the Physical Security and Technical Security teams. Physical Security is responsible for security design attributes for construction, security locks and hardware, VTR testing and approvals, security perimeters, barriers, gates, turnstiles, and signage throughout the site. Technical Security designs, installs, tests and repairs automated access controls, security alarms, and related hardware. We are a team of security professionals who deliver integrated technical systems of security solutions across the site to protect information, personnel, and national security assets.

Posting Duration:

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.
