About the Job

The freelance writer will research and write 500-800 word feature stories for CURA Stories as assigned. This work involves conducting thorough research on assigned CURA projects, partners, and topics, reviewing background materials, and preparing thoughtful interview questions. The writer will contact and schedule interviews with community partners, researchers, students, and other stakeholders via Zoom, phone, or in-person as part of the story development process.

Content creation responsibilities include writing engaging, clear, and concise feature stories that showcase CURA's community-driven projects and their impact. The writer will organize interview notes and research findings to craft compelling narratives that highlight the collaborative nature of university-community partnerships. After drafting stories, the writer will submit them to interviewees for review and approval, incorporate feedback, and finalize stories for publication. The writer will submit completed stories and any supplemental materials (photos, quotes, etc.) to the CURA Stories editor. When appropriate, the writer will develop and implement distribution plans to extend story reach, including crafting personalized story pitches to targeted internal and external editors and identifying appropriate distribution channels for maximum visibility.
